The Mick Price-trained Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes favourite Extreme Choice has his sole autumn lead-up to the end-of-month Group 1 jumping as the odds-on favourite in Chairman’s Stakes 2016 betting at Caulfield on Saturday.
There are just eight two-year-olds in the mix for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) after the early scratching of the Clinton McDonald-trained Revolving Door (6).
Of the remaining juveniles the best fancied in the latest Chairman’s Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a short $1.55 for the win after being backed in from $1.80 is Price’s promising son of Not A Single Doubt Extreme Choice.
The highly-spruiked colt is also leading all-in markets for the $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track on February 27 despite having had just the one run to date.
On debut Extreme Choice enjoyed an easy two length victory over So Serene in Randwick’s Inglis Nursery (1000m) on December 12, Saturday his Melbourne debut and first race since.
He will also bypass the Blue Diamond Preludes on way to the Group 1.
Following Extreme Choice in the markets for the Chairman’s Stakes this Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival are two other single figure hopes with Pearl Congenial ($6.50) and the unraced Mandee ($7).
Robert Smerdon trains local Gio Ponti filly pearl Congenial who is out to break her maiden status at her third career start.
She ran an eye-catching second to Missrock first-up last October at the track in the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) before a third on Cox Plate Day at Moonee Valley beaten just over a length by Dalradian in the Inglis Banner.
Exceed And Excel filly Mandee meanwhile is prepared by Peter Moody and comes into the race without an official trial.
She did look sharp in a recent jump out however and is looking to make an impact first-up.
The next best in betting at more generous odds are the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Exceed And Excel colt Highland Beat ($10) in gate two and the rails-drawn Simply Invincible ($17).
Highland Beat has had four runs to date for one win and a second and is out to atone for his 10th to current Golden Slipper Stakes favourite Capitalist on the Gold Coast in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 9.
