Fawkner ($3.50) returned to racing in the best way possible with success in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes a fortnight ago and remains clear favourite in 2015 Underwood Stakes betting markets ahead of Godolphin runner Contributer ($4.50) and The Cleaner ($6.50).

Will Fawkner justify favouritism and post another win at the highest level in the Underwood Stakes, or will one of his many talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1^st

Fawkner ($3.50)

Macedon Lodge star Fawkner is a proven performer over course, distance and at the level and appears likely to continue his undefeated run this time through the 2015 Underwood Stakes on Saturday, and at good odds. Winner of the 2013 edition of the Caulfield Cup, Fawkner returned last spring for a close second in the Makybe Diva Stakes before taking out the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) and running second in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) most notably. Allocated the ideal barrier 2 and confirmed to be partnered by champion hoop Damien Oliver, Fawkner is sure to lay plenty of pressure on The Cleaner from the outset and will probably be too good.

The Cleaner ($6.50)

The Cleaner is sure to inject break-neck speed into the 2015 Underwood Stakes and is going to be very difficult to stop after being allocated the rails draw. Having returned this year for second in the Listed George Adams Plate (1600m), the Savoire Vivre gelding ran a credible fourth in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) most notably on March 14^th but had clearly had enough when fifth in the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m). Arguably in career-best form this time in, The Cleaner ran an agonizingly-close second in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) before gain ballot-free entry into the Cox Plate with success in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) last time.

Sertorius ($51)

Jamie Edwards’ stable star Sertorius is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on August 29^th and undoubtedly offers the best value for money in 2015 Underwood Stakes betting markets at $51 for success or $11.70 to finish in the first three. A strong and consistent performer in posting ten wins and fourteen minors through 38 career starts, the Galileo gelding returned in autumn this year for second in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) before mustering a huge late turn of foot to win the Easter Cup.
