Eight races will be contested on 2015 George Main Stakes Day at Royal Randwick this afternoon; highlighted by the talent-rich Group 1 feature race over 1600m; Race 6 a 3:45pm AEST.

It is an overcast day in the great Sydney metropolitan region today and plenty of rain through the last 24 hours and overall seven days has meant the Randwick racing surface has been classified a Heavy 8 for 2015 George Main Stakes Day.
The action is set to get underway with the running of the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) at 12:40pm and will conclude with the TAB Rewards Handicap (1600m) at 5:05pm.

Only nine runners remain in contention for the Group 1 George Main Stakes this afternoon following the scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Moriarty, but the race is sure to figure as a particularly exciting edition with a number of the country’s leading milers confirmed to take to the barriers, including Kermadec, Pornichet and Royal Descent.
Six of the eight races on George Main Stakes Day will be contested at black type level, including three Group 2 races – The Shorts (1100m), Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Hill Stakes (2000m).
A number of leading contenders including Terravista have been scratched from The Shorts as a result of the inclement weather, but the likes of Ball Of Muscle, Delectation and Rebel Dane remain in contention.
Some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting three-year-old fillies will take to the barriers for the Tea Rose Stakes; the final point of call on the tradition path towards in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in a fortnight.
A number on horses will be on trial for a step-up to Group 1 company in the Hill Stakes and leading trainer Chris Waller appears likely to dominate the running of the race after confirming six of his stable’s stars as starters.
