Chris Waller’s Doncaster Mile winner Kermadec has opened top of the George Main Stakes 2015 odds to win another Sydney elite level this weekend at Royal Randwick Racecourse.

The four-year-old Teofilo stallion won the Doncaster Mile over the same track and distance as Saturday’s $500,000 Group 1 Colgate Optic White George Main Stakes (1600m) as a three-year-old in the autumn.
He has had two runs this time in most recently finishing second to Complacent in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) also run over the Randwick mile, which is the race Waller’s George Main Stakes winner last year Sacred Falls (2014) ran fourth in before the Group 1 triumph.
Waller has won two of the past three editions of the George Main with Shoot Out (2013) his other champion in the weight-for-age Sydney Spring Racing Carnival classic, and this year Kermadec is paying $2.90 through Ladbrokes.com.au in the current markets to hand Sydney’s best trainer another win.
Favourites have a gun record in the George Main Stakes in recent history with four winning in the past five years, only Guy Walter’s mare Streama (2013) scoring an upset in that time when race favourite Dissident finished sixth.
There are three other single figure hopes in the latest George Main Stakes betting markets including another Waller-trained Group 1 winner Royal Descent the next best fancied.
The former ATC Oaks winning daughter of Redoute’s Choice is also the early market mover backed in from $4.80 to $4.40 to win her second from three starts this spring after a first-up victory in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 22.
She was last seen crossing one behind stablemate Kermadec when third in the Chelmsford Stakes and is drawn in barrier seven with Hugh Bowman, who rode Shoot Out to victory for the stable two years ago, booked for the ride.
The other hopes under $10 for the win are the Kris Lees-trained Lucia Valentina ($6.50) in a gun barrier three draw and Gai Waterhouse’s Doomben Cup winner Pornichet ($7).
Savabeel mare Lucia Valentina has two previous Group 1 wins on her record to date but hasn’t won since taking out last year’s Turnbull over the mile in Melbourne.
She is second-up on Saturday after a sixth last time out in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on October 5 and shoots for her maiden top three finish at her fifth second-up run.
Pornichet jumps from barrier nine with Blake Shinn staying on the Vespone stallion who was runner-up in the Warwick Stakes before a sixth in the Chelmsford he’ll be out to atone for here.
At more generous odds for an upset George Main Stakes result this weekend are the likes of John Thompson’s Tramway Stakes winner Hooked ($12), the John O’Shea-trained Lonhro four-year-old Sweynesse ($13) and Kirramosa ($15) who is after her first win since the 2013 Crown Oaks.
