Sent out s the $1.60 favourite, winning rider Tommy Berry was able to secure the lead in the in the run to the first turn and skip away at the top of the straight to record a  one length win over Star Of Night ($17) who made up plenty of ground from the back.

Third spot was filled by Falloch ($13) who was also doing his best work over the concluding stages.

Today’s win was Harlem River’s first from three race starts and the two year old will now be sent for a spell and hopefully will measure up to some three year old races in the Spring.

Waterhouse is in England preparing her star colt Wandjina for the Group 1 £525,000 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot tonight Australian time, but said the master trainer indicated that Harlem River would head to the spelling paddock.

“I’m pretty sure Gai said that she was going to go out after today,” Berry said.

“She has all the right attributes to be a nice racehorse and I think she will go on and do that.”

Berry was quick to compare the Fastnet Rock filly to Waterhouse’s Group 1 winning mare Driefontein who Berry had a winning association with including a win in the 2012 $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

“She is very well put together and reminds me a little bit of Driefontein. So next preparation she might strengthen up a little bit and go onto bigger and better things.”

Stable representative Mark Newnham said that Harlem River had always shown above average ability and she put the writing on the wall for today’s win with a second to Flippant in the Listed $100,000 Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on June 6.
