That’s A Good Idea wins 2015 Ortensia Stakes

Top Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman wrapped up a winning double for Peter and Paul Snowden with That’s A Good Idea leading all of the way to win the Listed $140,000 Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes (1100m) at Scone today.

Bowman and the Snowdens combined to win the first race on the second day of the Scone Cup Carnival with Flippant in the Listed $140,000 Pryde’s Easifeed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) then bookended the meeting with That’s A Good Idea.

That’s A Good Idea was having his first run back from a spell but indicated a forward showing was on the cards with a Warwick Farm barrier trial win on May 5.

Bowman bounced That’s A Good Idea ($12) out of an outside barrier to cross to the big field in the early stages to take up the running and after it looked like he was going to get headed in the straight found enough to hold off the strong finishes of the $3.70 favourite Target In Sight and Atmospherical ($5.50) to win by three quarters of a length with a nose in between second and third.

“He takes a while to get going but he was smoking into the corner,” Bowman said.

“He really lengthened stride when I asked.”

The majority of That’s A Good Idea’s nine wins have been from the front but the five year old hasn’t been in the winner’s stall since winning a 1000m Welter on the Kensington track at Randwick in October last year.

Snowden is now thinking of heading the Brisbane for the Winter Carnival to run in the Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 30 but insisted that he will need a dry track.

“It’s got to be a dry track or he won’t go,” Snowden said.

“He’s a handy horse.”

“He took no prisoners today. It was a top field and he had a bad draw.”
