Two star colts on the verge of a Doncaster Mile start this weekend have been nominated for the Carbine Club Stakes 2015 in Sydney as a ‘Plan B’ on Saturday including the Chris Waller-trained Kermadec.
Both Kermadec and Sweynesse are sweating a start in the $3 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick Racecourse on Day 1 of The Championships, the talented duo sitting right on the cusp of a run in the classic.
The pair has also then been nominated for the $200,000 Group 3 The Daily Telegraph Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at the meeting in case they miss a run in the coveted Group 1.
The bookies at Ladbrokes.com.au are keeping both youngster safe in their futures Doncaster Mile odds with Kermadec at $8 and Sweynesse $9 in markets led by fellow three-year-old Hallowed Crown ($6) who comes off a third in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) over more distance.
Winner of Melbourne’s Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington back on Derby Day in the Spring, Teofilo colt Kermadec has been thereabouts all autumn including his fourth to Wandjina in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and a last start third to Japan’s Real Impact in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).
The John O’Shea-trained Sweynesse meanwhile chases his first win since the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) back in August last year, the galloper having run second to Hallowed Crown in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) two back before his Rosehill Guineas fourth last time out.
O’Shea and Godolphin have also entered Wakeful Stakes runner-up Abduction and progressive colt Farolitos for the Carbine Club Stakes while Waller’s other possible runner in the Group 3 is his Australian Oaks hope Amicus.
The Fastnet Rock filly, coming off a sixth to Fenway in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) from last Saturday, is also nominated for Saturday’s Doncaster Mile, the $2 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) and the $200,000 Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m).
Another exciting Group 1 performer in the Carbine Club mix this year is the Bryce Heys-trained Keeper gelding Sworn To Silence who ran an eye-catching fourth to Hallowed Crown in the Randwick Guineas.
Other notable Carbine Club Stakes nominees this autumn include the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Phar Lap Stakes fourth placegetter Diamond Valores, the Peter Moody-trained last start Warwick Farm winner Hi World and Gerald Ryan’s Commands colt Washington Heights who ran second to Hallowed Crown in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes on this day 12 months ago.
The official Carbine Club Stakes 2015 field and barrier draw is out on Wednesday making now the time to sign-up with Ladbrokes.com.au to get behind your favourites this weekend at the hottest odds!
