2014 Gold Edition Plate Field Features Cap Domingo

Gordon Yorke’s undefeated youngster Cap Domingo is one of the headline acceptors for the Gold Edition Plate 2014 at Doomben Racecourse in Brisbane on Saturday.

The Natural Destiny colt is undefeated with three wins to date, a record he’ll be out to add to this weekend in the $100,000 Listed Belvedere Gold Edition Plate (1200m) that attracted a final field of a dozen three-year-olds.

Cap Domingo has drawn barrier one for his maiden black type assignment, the Gosford-based galloper travelling to Brisbane on the back of three straight wins at his home track.

Sam Clipperton is replaced on the weekend by Grant Cooksley who rides the up-and-comer for the first time, Cap Domingo last seen winning a Class 2 over 1200m on December 4.

There is a host of other last start winners in this year’s Gold Edition Plate field including Rockhampton’s Our Neddy Boy, the Ben Currie-trained Midnight Allure coming off back-to-back Toowoomba wins, Cloud Consort, the local Kelso Wood-trained filly She’s Miss Devine and Snippetson filly Our Lady Mac after her third on the trot.

Another more notable hope coming off a win is Bryan Guy’s Gold Coast-trained Real Saga filly Stroak.

Fifth to Unencumbered in this year’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic, she’s got a good record at Doomben with two wins and a third.

Her latest start here was a disappointing 12th to Time For War in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) from the winter, after which she ran ninth to Almalad in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

She returned off a six month spell to mature on November 29 at home and won over 1200m, form Guy hopes she can bring back to Doomben this weekend.

Other notable Gold Edition Plate hopefuls include the returning Breakfast Creek Stakes runner-up Homehill for Kelly Schweida and Little Fighter in barrier three for Jim Byrne.
