Two promising three-year-olds are currently in a battle for top spot in the Daybreak Lover 2014 odds for Saturday with last weekend’s Queensland Guineas winner Sir Moments narrow favourite.

Running as Eagle Farm Race 3 at 12:35pm on Stradbroke Handicap Day, the $125,000 Listed Best Security Daybreak Lover (1600m) has this year drawn a final field of 11 youngsters.
Two of those are under $4 in the latest Daybreak Lover betting markets with the Steven O’Dea-trained Sir Moments ($3.40) and the horse they beat home last weekend Liberty’s Choice ($3.80).
The duo ran one-two in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) with just a nose separating them on the line.
For round two the pair return to Eagle Farm but go up to a mile for the Daybreak Lover where the Gai Waterhouse-trained Redoute’s Choice colt Liberty’s Choice will be looking to turn the tables on Sir Moments.
Tim Bell retains the ride on O’Dea’s Choisir gelding Sir Moments who shoots for back-to-back wins jumping from barrier eight on Saturday and who O’Dea believes will be hard to beat again here with the mile to suit.
Liberty’s Choice is one outside them in gate nine, Tommy Berry replacing Blake Shinn on the Sydney raider who also ran second to stable mate Cosmic Endeavour in the $400,000 Inglis Scone Cuingeas (1400m) two back.
Outside the dominant two in Daybreak Lover betting are then three other single figure fancies including $5 third favourite Rough Copy.
Wayne Hillis’ New Zealand-trained Perfectly Ready gelding has had two runs down under this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, most recently finishing two and a half lengths away sixth to Eastern Prince in the Listed Queensland Day (1200m) on Doomben 10,000 Day.
They’ll be better suited getting back up to the 1600m however having won their last start back home in the Lindsay Mile at the start of March before their trip across the Tasman.
Hopfgarten and Longma then follow at $7 rounding out the single figure Daybreak Lover chances.
Robert Heathcote’s local Mossman three-year-old Hopfgarten was in top form winning four on the trot before their last start loss.
The last of their turf triumphs was at Eagle Farm on April 26 when beating them home in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m).
Hopfgargen then dropped down to 1350m at Doomben for the Group 3 Fred Best Classic but didn’t appreciate the shorter distance or tighter track when third last (14th) behind Havana.
They can improve getting back to The Farm on Saturday and the mile making their price a generous one.
Longma meanwhile has the far outside barrier to contend from with Waterhouse’s Sebring colt looking to return to form after a 10th to Sir Moments in the Queensland Guineas last weekend.
