There are three Group races on the Gold Coast race card this Saturday for AD Hollindale Stakes Day including the Gold Coast Guineas 2014 where 33 three-year-olds are currently in the mix.
Attracting the largest number of nominees of the stakes races on the program, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) serves as a nice lead-up for Brisbane-bound youngsters who could back-up in something like the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 17.
As always there’s a strong presence of interstate raiders looking to steal the show from the locals in the Guineas.
Some of the better performed visitors include stakes winning Mossman colt Dothraki coming off a fifth in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes and Royal Sovereign sixth placed Havana.
Coming from even further afield meanwhile is the headline Gold Coast Guineas contender, the Jason Bridgman-trained Kiwi filly Costa Viva to make her Australian debut if accepted.
The daughter of Encosta De Lago has been in flying form back home winning three of her six starts, including the Group 1 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton Park last November.
She’s had just the one run this year when fourth behind Moozoon in a Trentham Group 3 over the mile back on January 25, but Costa Viva did impress with a four length trial win at Te Awamutu on April 22 ahead of her trip across the Tasman.
As for the Queenslanders in the mix one of the best looks to be the Jason McLachlan-trained Sunshine Coast galloper Enquare.
The flying Stratum filly is five from 10 in her career having enjoyed and races for the first time since her third behind Sweet Idea in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) here on the Gold Coast in January.
Prior to that the flyer enjoyed four straight wins and back-to-back Doomben stakes races including the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) in late December.
She comes off a trial win by five and a half lengths up home and has the fresh record, class and form at the Gold Coast for a big effort here.
Some of the last start winners in the mix then include Pat Duff’s progressive grey Abu Ben Adam who won here over the 1400m on April 19, the Murwillumbah-based Fifth Chance who took out a Class 3 at Eagle Farm to make it three from three, Norm Hilton’s last start Toowoomba winning filly It’s Gonna Be Good and Bruce Hill’s local Husson filly Miss Husson.
See below for the full Gold Coast Guineas 2014 nominations which will be cut to the final field with acceptances closing on Wednesday.
In the meantime why not get in on the autumn – winter racing action online at Ladbrokes.com.au where you’ll have access to an EFTPOS card granting you instant access to your winnings from any ATM in Australia seconds after payout.
