Waterhouse Confident of Queen Elizabeth Success For Carlton House

Trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident Her Majesty The Queen-owned Carlton House will justify early punters’ support and win the major Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick this weekend.

Having completed a strong piece of work over 14 metres on the Randwick Kenso track on Tuesday morning, Waterhouse told TVN Carlton House will line up for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in perfect condition.

“He glided over 1400 metres on the track here this morning, on the Kenso track which was available to us” Waterhouse said.

“He’ll be right there on Saturday, he’s done really well.”

While yet to claim a victory under the care of Waterhouse, the Street Cry entire has reportedly taken well to life in Australia.

“He’s a huge eater, which means you have to keep the work up to him” Waterhouse added.

“He’s a very happy, healthy horse.”

Securing three wins and five places from only fourteen race starts to date, Carlton House began his racing career under the guidance of leading British trainer Sir Michael Stoute; contesting a particularly consistent 2012 preparation before transferring to Waterhouse’s Randwick stables at the beginning of 2013.

Settling in the spelling paddock for close to a year, Carlton House returned to racing with a disappointing run for ninth in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) first-up before quickly returning to form back-to-back unlucky seconds in both the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) and Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) last time out.

Having claimed early favouritism for the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes following his most recent performance, Carlton House has opened and maintained as clear market leader in betting fields for this weekend’s feature race, currently offered at a quote of $3.50.

Having claimed the Ranvet Stakes and Group 1 The BMW (2400m) in her two most recently runs, Silent Achiever is currently sole occupant on the second line of betting at $4.60 odds ahead of It’s A Dundeel ($6), Boban and Royal Descent; sharing the fourth line of betting at $8.50.
