Talented New Zealand-based mare Silent Achiever has produced an incredible final-straight sprint to win the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon; Melbourne Cup/Australian Cup champion Fiorente unable to match the late pace of his competitors in a largely disappointing display.

Having jumped from the gates well, Silent Achiever found key position on the heels of Her Majesty The Queen-owned Carlton House over the back straight, ahead of champion stayer It’s A Dundeel and Fiorente.
Rounding the bend in good position, the classy O’Reilly mare appeared to be against the odds as the two markets leaders wound up for a final assault, but managed to find an extra gear as her rivals tired, breaking through to beat Carlton House by a short nose on the line, It’s A Dundeel holding on to round out the places.
Trainer Roger James was delighted with Silent Achiever’s performance in the Ranvet Stakes and was quick to heap all praise on the ride given by jockey Nash Rawiller.
“I felt all week we were a far better chance that what we were being rated” James said immediately following the race.
“I said to Nash she’s never been ridden forward but I wouldn’t make up my mind too early in the race and if they want to pull up and she’s travelling, let her roll.
“It was a masterful ride as we’ve come to expect from him.”
As expected, the in-form Rawiller delivered a typically exceptional ride on the classy five-year-old, allowing Silent Achiever to claim her third-straight victory this preparation and first in Australia, having claimed two major events in New Zealand prior to venturing across the ditch.
“She’s had the writing on the wall for some time and Roger was very adamant this preparation that the blinkers have really helped her improve by a couple of lengths” Rawiller said after dismounting.
“That was enough for me, because that’s all she needed to find to figure in the finish of one of these big ones and hopefully there’s a better one ahead of her.”
Having partnered Carlton House to second in the Listed Parramatta Cup last time out, Rawiller said the form of Silent Achiever was irresistible when confirming a ride for the Ranvet Stakes.
“Carlton House performed so well overseas and I had that in the back of my mind when I rode him last start, but I just thought this mare (Silent Achiever) wanted to win these good one’s in Australia although she hadn’t done it before” he said.
“I just thought that if she could come here in good form like she has in this preparation she could knock up winning a few.
“I don’t think you ever ride a bad Group 1, but I was very happy to get the nod for her.”
Included in nominations for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), Silent Achiever will be aiming to produce a more convincing run than that which delivered a disappointing fourth in the 2013 edition of the race.
