Smart 2013 Kevin Heffernan Stakes Field Released

A quality line-up of late season sprinters will face off in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes 2013 at Caulfield this weekend as part of the exciting Zipping Classic Day action.

Due to run as Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEST) as the penultimate event on Saturday’s card, this year’s $135,000 Group 3 TMB Printing Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1200m) has attracted a final field of 13 runners.

To wear the number one saddlecloth is the widely-drawn Pinwheel for Peter Snowden who has drawn wide in gate 12.

The veteran Lonhro eight-year-old has had two runs this time in, a nice fourth to Arinosa first-up in Sydney’s Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) followed by a last start fifth to Boban, winner of the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) last Saturday, in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 19.

One of two last start winners in the race meanwhile is the Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained Famous Seamus who has drawn well in gate two with Tim Clark to ride.

The Elusive City gelding enjoyed a Randwick win over 1100m over Ichihara last month and travels to Melbourne for their shot at this.

Other runners coming off some nice recent runs include the David Hayes-trained Caulfield Sprint fourth placegetter Pago Rock (barrier eight) who will have Cox Plate winning apprentice Chad Schofield aboard, last start Crown Oaks Day stakes winner Lankan Rupee (barrier four) and Bradbury’s Luck mare She Can Skate in the ‘visitor’s gate’ for local horseman Geoff Wheeler as she vies for her fifth career win from nine starts.

Also in the mix is a talented duo for Darren Weir who will saddle-up Lonhro mare Lonhspresso (barrier three) and his dual Group 1 winner Platelet (barrier 7) who both ran fifth in their final run.

Winner of the Robert Sangster Stakes – The Goodwood double in Adelaide last season, Platelet has had two runs this time in firstly defeating Spirit Of Boom in the Gilgai Stakes before running fifth to the same horse in the Caulfield Sprint last start.
