Nominations have been released for all the Caulfield Cup Day feature races this Saturday in Melbourne including those for the Caulfield Sprint 2013 where Darren Weir’s dual Group 1 winner Platelet heads the nominations.
One of two Group 2 support races on the program, this year’s $220,000 Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint (1100m) has attracted a bumper 26 early entries.
The top-rated is Strategic mare Platelet, winner of the Group 1 Robert Sangster – The Goodwood double in Adelaide last season.
She has had two runs this time in, most recently beating home Spirit Of Boom to take out the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 5.
Gilgai Stakes runner-up Spirit Of Boom, Tony Gollan’s Queensland raider a multiple Group 1 fourth placegetter from the winter back home, is also nominated for the Caulfield Sprint.
Gollan has also entered his former Group 1 The Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom for the feature, won 12 months ago by Howmuchdoyouloveme who took it out first-up for the spring.
A nice lead-up to the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Caulfield Sprint has attracted plenty of other quality runners.
Others high up the ballot include the Gerald Ryan-trained Hot Snitzel, Peter Moody’s Ready To Rip and the David Hayes-trained Pago Rock who comes off a second to Unpretentious in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at the track just last Saturday.
Also in the mix are the likes of Dubawi mare Shamal Wind, the resuming Canberra raider Unanimously last seen winning the Wagga Town Plate by three lengths back in May, and She Can Skate who will be vying for their fourth on the trot should they make the field currently sitting 21st on the order of entry.
See below for the full Caulfield Stakes 2013 nominations with the final field and barriers due out on Wednesday.
