The fillies have come up trumps in the 2012 Heritage Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse, with Ichihara taking out the event.
Fellow fillies Villa Splendido and Agueda finished in second and third, respectively.
Ichihara showed her class to win today’s 2012 Heritage Stakes by two and a half lengths in what was her second spring race start.
The General Nediym filly placed fourth in his Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes first-up this spring behind Nechita.
Trainer Allan Denham was pleased that he decided to travel from Wyong to run Ichihara in today’s 2012 Heritage Stakes.
“A long way to come…but it was well worth it,” Denham said.
Ichihara stepped down in distance by half a furlong for the 2012 Heritage Stakes, which is something Denham had always planned.
“We didn’t want to increase her in distance,” he said.
“She’s very good.”
Ichihara will now either go to the Listed Reginald Allen Quality at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse next weekend, or the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes on October 6.
“We’ve got two options,” Denham said.
“We’ll nominated for next week against the fillies. If not we’ll wait a week and take on the boys.”
Jockey Brenton Avdulla was hopeful that he would be able to partner Ichihara for the remainder of the spring carnival.
“I was really happy with her the other day (when fourth),” Avdulla said.
“She won like a nice horse.
“I obviously knew I had the fitness edge on the three main dangers.
“She really surprised me how well she did let go.”
Ichihara has won four of her six race starts and has earned more $255,000 in prize money.
