With less than a week to go before the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival hits fever pitch with Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill on Saturday April 2, today there are three quality TAB race meetings set to take place around Australia.
Tracks in Victoria, New South Wales and Kalgoorlie are set to host plenty of top-class events this Tuesday, with a fourth meet at Townsville since abandoned due to the weather and the state of the track up in North Queensland.
See below for a rundown of where today’s racing action is happening, when race one at each meeting is due to jump and what the highlight events are on each card.
Victoria’s Sale Racecourse has an exciting eight-race meeting scheduled today starting at 1:00pm (AEDST) with the $12,000 Monacellars SV 3YO Maiden Plate (1013m).
After the early maiden races the action heats up with some excellent handicap showdowns not to miss including Race 6 – the $12,000 Old Sale RD Vets 0 – 68 Handicap (1213m) at 3:30pm (AEDST) where #1 Bianmick drawn ideally in barrier two and coming off a win at this track on February 25 where they carried one kilo more to victory than the 58kg they are allocated today.
The sole TAB meet in New South Wales today is the eight-event programme at Scone Racecourse, Race 1 the $10,000 Teofilo Class 2 Handicap (1600m) kicking things off at 1:25pm (AEDST).
In the opening race at Scone we are getting behind #4 Buckle Me Up, the Peter Mills-trained four-year-old coming off a close second to Hip Hop Hewi in a Class 2 at Armadale from a wider draw carrying more weight.
For racing fans keeping an eye on the promising juveniles getting around, Scone Race 4 the $15,000 Book May Accommodation Now 2YO Handicap (1100m) at 3:15pm (AEDST) is a must watch where three last start winners will face off including #1 Charm’s Honour, Greg Bennett’s unbeaten Strada filly seeking her third career victory.
Later this afternoon WA’s Kalgoorlie track will come to life with the first of seven scheduled races, the $11,500 Bucks Off Liquor Maiden (1100m), taking place at 4:05pm (AEDST).
Race 5 is shaping up as a beauty with the $13,250 Radiowest Sprint (1200m) running at 6:32pm (AEDST) and of the 10-horse field we like #2 Ready Freddy, Debbie Warne’s More Than Ready eight-year-old drawn well in gate two and coming off some impressive form including their last-start win at the track on March 19.
