The 2011 Pago Pago Stakes, offering a final ballot exemption into this year’s Golden Slipper Stakes field to the winner, is scheduled to run as one of the nine black-type features at Rosehill Guineas Day this Saturday and here we have the winning tips for Rosehill Race 2.
Due to jump at 12:50pm (AEDST) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, the $175,000 Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) field features nine promising two-year-old colts and geldings.
Pronounced favourite in the Pago Pago Stakes odds is Peter Moody’s ultra consistent Golden Archer.
A winner of five of their six career starts to date, Rock Of Gibraltar colt Golden Archer is seeking their fourth straight victory most recently having taken out the Listed St Albans Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Friday March 19 by an impressive 4 ½ lengths.
Despite his class and brilliant record, Moody has not paid to nominate Golden Archer for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 2.
Golden Archer will jump from barrier eight on Saturday and drops back two kilos in the weights from his last three runs and as such has opened as the $2.30 favourite at Luxbet.
However, it is an upset Rosehill Race 2 result the Races.com.au team are tipping with #2 You’re Canny our favourite to win.
In-form Canberra gelding You’re Canny is another last-start winner in the Pago Pago Stakes field having beaten home one-time Golden Slipper favourite Karuta Queen in the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) on March 13. Drops down in the weights for Saturday and has Group 1 winning jockey Glen Boss booked for the ride making them great value at $5.50 for the win.
Form of the favourite cannot be ignored and he will run a close second.
Grahame Begg’s improving colt Written Consent is third favourite in the Pago Pago odds and this is where we are tipping him to come in on the line.
Lightly-raced Danzero colt from the stables of Chris Waller ran second on debut and with a nice barrier four draw on Saturday could rise to finish in the money, but best to add only into exotics. The fact Nash Rawiller has stuck with him is a hint.
