The countdown to the Sydney Spring Racing...
The 2011 Mannerism Stakes is set to run at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday, February 26 as part of the elite-racing action of Blue Diamond Stakes Day and the final field and barrier draw for the mares-only feature have been released.
The $125,000 Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) is the last of nine races on the Caulfield card for Saturday, due to jump at 5:50pm (AEDST).
Twelve quality mares have been accepted for the 2011 Mannerism Stakes field. The top-rated entry for Caulfield Race 9 is the Darren Weir-trained Culminate.
Drawn in barrier five for Saturday and due to be ridden by Michael Walker, seven-year-old Culminate resumes racing in the Mannerism after having finished a distant fifth beaten 16 lengths by Sacred Choice in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Victoria Derby Day last spring.
Prior to her Myer Classic run, Culminate scored victory in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) and back to 1400m on Saturday has claims.
One of the top fancies for the Mannerism is Lee Freedman’s Reset mare Well Rounded drawn in barrier eight.
Last start on Emirates Stakes Day at Flemington Well Rounded claimed a tidy 1 ¾ length victory over Purple in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (200m).
Feedman will also be represented by Mont Fleuri in the Mannerism Stakes this year.
Coming up trumps in the Mannerism Stakes barrier draw is My Emotion with Craig Williams in the mount.
Other notable 2011 Mannerism Stakes hopefuls include:
- Counterpane (Peter Snowden) – Well-bred Lonhro four-year-old ran an eye-catching third over 1300m at Sandown last start on January 29, having just her second Group start on Saturday and has a good draw (barrier four) and weight (54kg)
- Simply Put (Dale Sutton) – Charge Forward mare coming off a last start fourth in the Group 3 Hyderabad Race Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 12 before which she won two straight, has claims despite wide draw
- Windarra Place (Terry & Karina O’Sullivan) – Five-year-old racing first-up for the season, won the Ararat Gold Cup last preparation and has a decent record when resuming
