Rescheduled Caulfield Races to Run at Sandown on Wednesday

Two of the three Listed races that were part of the washed out Caulfield meet on Saturday have been transferred to the Wednesday race-card at Betfair Park Sandown on February 9 with the Chairman’s Stakes and Manfred Stakes highlighting the day’s racing.

Heavy rainfall and subsequent poor track conditions at a number of Victorian racecourses saw the abandonment of meetings on Saturday, including Caulfield.

Punters now have a top midweek meet to enjoy at Sandown, with both the $100,000 Listed Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) and the $100,000 Listed Manfred Stakes (1300m) on the programme.

While race distances have been amended due to the different track configuration at Sandown, the final fields, barrier draws and weights for both the Chairman’s Stakes for two-year-olds and the Manfred Stakes for three-year-olds remain unchanged.

The 2011 Chairman’s Stakes final field features 12 up-and-coming juveniles including Peter Moody’s well-bred Exceed And Excel colt Covered In Class, the Lee Freedman-trained Atomic on debut and Danny O’Brien’s unraced son of Starcraft Cape Canaveral.

In the 2011 Manfred Stakes, previous Blue Diamond Stakes winner Star Witness is still expected to start the odds-on favourite at Luxbet in their first-up run for the season.

The other Listed event that was set to run at Caulfield on the weekend, the $100,000 Listed W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m), has been completely abandoned.

The race was to have seen the likes of Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily and the Peter Moody-trained Reward For Effort resume for the season.

Gallopers that were engaged for the W.J. Adams Stakes will likely run in the Group 3 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield this Saturday, February 12, instead.

See below for the Chairman’s Stakes and Manfred Stakes final field and barriers for Wednesday.

Betting on the Sandown features this Wednesday will open at Luxbet shortly, so get ready to lock in your favourites at the best price by opening your Luxbet account now!
