Spinney wins Caulfield Race 2
Running in his 49th career race, Spinney with jockey Jake Noonan chased down early leader Lord Pindari to pull clear over the home straight. It was a close battler for the minor placings with Lord Pindari, Skysteamer and My Bentley all close together. In the end Spinney won by 1 and 1/2 lengths from Skytreamer with Lord Pindari a further 0.1 length behind.
The win in the 2000m Isobel Malone Memorial Handicap today gives Spinney, trained by Peter Snowden, his 9th career win.
Spinney’s win in Race 2 also marks the first winner of the day wearing the special Australia Day race colours which are worn by the top-weighted horse in each race.
