2010 Travel Associates Classic Fillies and Mares Plate Field & Betting Preview

This weekend the best racing action is undoubtedly at Ascot on Saturday where the 2010 Winterbottom Stakes is taking centre stage, but in Queensland Eagle Farm Racecourse will also be host to two black-type features including the $80,000 Listed Travel Associates Classic Fillies and Mares Plate (1200m).

The 2010 Classic Fillies and Mares Plate has drawn a top-class field of 16 sprinters with Zero Rock the clear favourite to win at the online bookies.

Kelso Wood’s Danzero five-year-old Zero Rock is coming off a first-up win at Eagle Farm where they took out the Elder Consulting Handicap (1000m) and the punters are getting right behind them to make it two on the trot on Saturday.

Drawn in barrier nine, Zero Rock will be ridden by champion hoop Chris Munce and will relish the drop back in weight from 58.5kg they carried last start to the 55.5kg they are allocated in the Plate.

Other early favourites in the Classic Fillies and Mares Plate field this year include Paul Messara’s Flowerchild jumping from barrier four and tipped to improve from their last start failure in the Crown Promenade Stakes with Larry Cassidy in the mount, Gag Order on the rails in gate one and consistent four-year-old mare Phenomenal Lass.

Longer priced runners that could add value to your exotic bets include the Gillian Heinrich-trained Swiss Rose coming off a third to Zero Rock, and Robert Heathcote’s seasoned six-year-old Acquired.
