This afternoon Ascot Racecourse hosts the next major race meeting of the Perth Summer Carnival headlined by Race 8 – the $250,000 Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) due to jump at 7:57pm (AEDST).
The 2010 WA Guineas final field features 15 quality three-year-olds lead by Playing God who has been backed in from $5 to the $4.60 favourite at Luxbet.
The Neville Parnham-trained Playing God has draw out wide with barrier 12 in today’s showdown, but after a first-up win at Belmont on October 9 and then a gallant second in the Fairetha Stakes (1400m) here last start, Playing God is the punters favourite in the WA Guineas betting.
However, in a wide open market where four other runners are at single figure odds, the Races.com.au team have selected classy filly Motion Pictures as the top pick to win the WA Guineas.
The Dave Casey-trained local Oratorio filly Motion Pictures won the WATC Sires Produce Stakes back in May and is coming off a solid fourth in the Burgess Queen Stakes here.
Tipped to improve second-up for the season and drawn ideally in barrier two, Motion Pictures will be hard to beat, especially dropping back to just 54kg after carrying 58kg last start.
For extra value the two best runners to add into the WA Guineas Trifecta today are Hour Of Peril and Pago Rock.
John Thompson’s consistent galloper Hour Of Peril is coming off three straight wins, the first victories of their career, and having found their winning form in Queensland looks a strong chance of continuing here at great double figure odds.
Pago Rock is another one of the favourites, the Frank Maynard-trained gelding having won a three-year-old handicap over 1200m at Ascot last start and well positioned here in barrier three.
