The second quality Group race at Caulfield Guineas Day today is scheduled to jump as Race 4 at 2:00pm (AEDST) when the $200,000 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) takes place.
The 2010 Schillaci Stakes final field features eight weight-for-age gallopers following the scratching of #9 Pellizotti, with the hot favourite to win being the Peter Moody-trained Black Caviar.
The unbeaten mare is resuming racing following an injury-enforced spell that started after her Group 2 Australian Stakes victory back in January.
But the bookies and punters are getting right behind Black Caviar, leading the betting markets at Sportsbet paying $1.70 for a win.
Drawn ideally in barrier two and coming off a winning barrier trial, Black Caviar is also our top pick in the Schillaci Stakes today.
Caulfield – Race 4 – Schillaci Stakes
- Races.com.au Favourite: #6 Black Caviar – Rated Special to Win at $1.70 through Ladbrokes.com.au
- Best Place Bets: #1 Mic Mac and #3 First Command Ladbrokes.com.au
With Black Caviar at such a short quote today, punters can get some extra value by backing the two horses we rate as the best to Place at a great price through Sportsbet.
The Paul Messara-trained Mic Mac is coming off a short spell today, having shown great promise in his two hit ups last month.
Drawn out wider in barrier seven, Mic Mac needs a good jump but with that can rise and finish in the money here.
First Command is also getting plenty of love from the punters, now the second favourite paying $5 through Sportsbet.
Also drawn wide on the far outside, the Lee Freedman-trained First Command enjoyed a win at the Caulfield track over this distance late last month and with some luck can be right up there in the Herbert Power.
Another good light-weight chance to win Caulfield Race 4 today is the Danny O’Brien-trained Star Witness, set to jump from barrier one and coming off a gallant third to Toorak Toff in the Vain Stakes here last month.
