Moonee Valley is gearing up to host the prestigious $500 000 Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) this Saturday and with so many classy contenders ready to do battle it will definitely be the race of the weekend to watch.
The final field and barrier draw was announced on Tuesday headlined by the unbeaten filly Black Caviar and last start Lightning Stakes winner Nicconi.
Trained by the legendary Peter Moody, three-year-old Black Caviar is aiming for her sixth successive win in as many starts and will start from barrier nine.
Nicconi has drawn well in barrier four, the David Hayes-trained champion ridden by Damien Oliver.
But the top elects will face some tough competition from the likes of Anthony Cummings’ Turffontein (br.3) and the Danny O’Brien-trained Master O’Reilly (br. 6).
Saturday’s Moonee Valley meeting is packed full of fantastic events and aside from the headlining William Reid Stakes, there will be plenty of great betting opportunities found in the other eight races on the day including the Group 2 Sunline Stakes.
