Talented mare Dane Julia will contend tomorrow’s Group 3 Eclipse Stakes at Betfair Park Sandown as great Australian trainer Lee Freedman hopes to collect another stakes victory to add to her growing record.
The imported six-year-old has so far won eight of her 30 career starts, starting 21 times under Freeman’s training. It wasn’t until he sent her across the Tasman to New Zealand that she began to bring the stable success, winning the Group 1 Bloodstock Breeders Stakes.
It seems she has bought her winning form back to Australia too, taking out her first Australian race, the Listed Summoned Stakes (1500m) at her first visit to Sandown last start; and if she can continue the good form at the track on Saturday she stands a strong chance.
The Darren Weir-trained Like It Is was the last mare to win the Eclipse Stakes in 2007, following a second place in the Summoned Stakes.
Dane Julia is currently sitting as equal third-favourite for the race at $7.50 with Rhyno Chaser. Leading the betting markets is Rose Syrah at $4 and Offenders close behind at $5.50.
