The 2009 Melbourne Cup Field is expected to be announced at 5pm AEDST today following the Victoria Derby Day.
The current top 24 contenders includes Cup favourite Alcopop and 2008 Melbourne Cup winner Viewed.
With 28 runners still in the $5.5 million event, four more horses need to be eliminated before the final field can be released.
The Melbourne Cup barrier draw will be announced one hour later at 6pm.
