Premiership winning trainer Darren Weir has seven horses included in the nominations for the 2018 Group 2 $200,000 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Stable stars Black Heart Bart and Humidor are among the entries while last Saturday’s Aurie’s Star Handicap winner Voodoo Lad could back up this week after scoring a classy win down the Flemington straight on the weekend.

“I wouldn’t be against backing him up next week in the Lawrence if he has a good week,” Weir told RSN 927’s Correct Weight on Sunday.

“I think the back-up for him would be great, but I’ll have to talk to the owner and make sure the horse does well during the week.

“They may not want to go that way.

“To get a Group 1 (after that) would be good for him, but I’m not sure which one (to aim him at).”

Multiple Group 1 winner Black Heart Bart has had one run back from a spell for a first up fourth to Vega Magic in the Group 3 $150,000 The Big Screen Company Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on July 28 while Humidor will be facing the starter for the first time since finishing fourth to Winx in the Group 1 $4m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 14.

Weir has also nominated his imports Danon Liberty, Kings Will Dream and Red Carnival  as well as his promising imported stayer Big Duke.

The B.P.Lawrence Stakes nominations also includes Group 1 winners Boom Time and Harlem from the Lindsay Park Stable, Grunt and Mighty Boss from the Mick Price stable as well as the Ciaron Maher 2016 Caulfield Cup winner Jameka.

The final acceptances for the 2018 P.B. Lawrence Stakes will be taken on Wednesday, August 15.
