A huge crowd was on hand to watch a thrilling edition of this year’s Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

The race came down to the wire between $4.50 second-elect In Her Time and $8.00 outsider Osborne Bulls, but it was the Kris Lees trained six-year-old who hung on for a nail-biting win at the line.

In Her Time looked well on her way to victory down the straight before Osborne Bulls wound up on the outside. $3.20 favourite Sunlight failed to figure in the placings, while jockey Corey Brown did a great job kicking In Her Time home to victory over the final 50m.

“I sort of joined her halfway through her career, had some good luck on her but I’ve had some bad luck on her as well so, it’s a job well done.” Brown said.

“The pace was solid, I thought I drew the wrong side, but then when I got here and seen the track today, she definitely drew the outside, but I did elect to come to the middle of the track, I didn’t want to race her by herself.

Trainer Kris Lees was also encouraged by what he saw as he now looks to send a handful of runners to next month’s $1.25 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on March 9.

“She was exposed the whole race, but Corey summed it up earlier, she picked up the running on the inside and was probably a winning move” Lees said.

In Her Time has firmed into $6.00 for the feature race, while fellow stablemate Graff, who finished fourth on Saturday, is now into $6.00 after coming on strongly first-up.
