The always-popular 2021 Adelaide Cup race takes place in South Australia on Monday and it is shaping-up as a one-horse event according to the markets with Symon Wilde’s class mare Tralee Rose the odds-on favourite.

Set to run as Morphettville Race 7 at 4:15pm (ACDT), this year’s Group 2 $302,250 Adelaide Cup (3200m) field is down to 16 starters with the early withdrawal of recent Hobart Cup winner Double You Tee.

Updated Adelaide Cup odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au are dominated by Tavistock four-year-old Tralee Rose who is at a current quote of $1.90 to continue her outstanding recent run of form.

She has won five of her past six starts including Flemington’s Listed Bagot Handicap (2800m) on New Year’s Day by a runaway seven lengths.

An out-and-out stayer, she proved her versatility heading to Morphettville last month to then easily account for the locals in the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) by over three lengths.

Tralee Rose was odds-on favourite that day and is deserving of her short price again in Adelaide Cup betting as she goes up to the two miles.

No concerns at all about the distance after that Bagot Handicap devastation and she only goes up a kilo off her last start carrying 55.5kg from gate five with Jason Holder in the saddle again.

Outside of the hard to beat favourite in the Adelaide Cup field this autumn, there are just two other stayers under $10 for the win with Starcaster ($9) and new top weight Mosh Music ($9.50) presenting as the most likely to score the upset.

Dansili six-year-old Starcaster represents the in-form Anthony & Sam Freedman training duo and is also out to extend a winning streak coming off back-to-back wins at Moonee Valley in Melbourne.

The latest was on February 12 when saluting by two and a half-lengths in the Listed Torney Cup (2500m).

Monday’s assignment is obviously harder and he needs to prove his ability at the 3200m, but with the flying Jamie Kah in the saddle from a good gate (3) with a light weight (53.5kg) he presents as a chance.

With the withdrawal of original top weight Double You Tee (59kg), the heaviest kilos in the Adelaide Cup weights now fall on the back of Archie Alexander’s top mare Mosh Music (58kg).

Drawn out wider in gate 15 (into 14) with Mark Zahra booked for the ride, the talented Moshe six-year-old improved on her seventh to Starcaster at The Valley two back to salute at Flemington last time out.

She looked to relish the extra distance and return to HQ when carting 59kg to victory in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m).

Mosh Music is out to be the second runner in as many years to complete the Roy Higgins – Adelaide Cup double after the success of King Of Leogrance (2020) last autumn.

Also backing-up out of that race in the Adelaide Cup field on Monday are the Lindsay Park-trained runner-up Sin To Win ($19) and Peter Moody’s consistent son of Fiorente Stars Of Carrum ($17) who ran third and could be the hidden value to improve next-up.

The early Adelaide Cup market mover meanwhile into $10 is the Peter Gelagotis-trained Long Arm ($10) out in gate 17 (into 16) with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.

This Irish-bred son of Rock Of Gibraltar comes off the well-beaten second to Tralee Rose in the Lord Reims Stakes when carrying 56kg and will enjoy coming down to 53.5kg for the rematch.
