2020 Bright Shadow Field & Odds: Love You Lucy Double-Figures

The bookies are tipping against last start Dane Ripper Stakes winner Love You Lucy in the Bright Shadow Quality 2020 at Eagle Farm this weekend with the mare at double-figures to enjoy another feature race win in Brisbane.

The Barry Squair-trained daughter of Love Conquers All raced out of her skin at the Eagle Farm track on June 13 proving the pride of Toowoomba with her shock win at 40/1 in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m).

This weekend she drops in distance and grade for the Listed $125,000 Bright Shadow Quality (1200m), but the four-year-old is currently at attractive odds of $12 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Veteran hoop Glen Colless retains the ride having produced Love You Lucy at the perfect time in the Group 2 Dane Ripper, the duo drawn in gate eight in a capacity Bright Shadow field.

Last start the mare carried 57kg to victory and she is up 1.5kg allocated the equal 58.5kg topweight with the Chris Waller-trained Fiesta ($18), helping to explain her longer price.

Sitting top of the Bright Shadow odds at $6.50 is the early Godolphin-raced market mover Multaja one beside Love You Lucy in barrier nine with Brad Stewart to ride.

James Cummings’ Medaglia D’Oro four-year-old ran seventh to Love You Lucy at the Gold Coast in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) back in mid-may before a fifth when only 1.5 lengths off Shalwa in Doomben’s Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1350m).

Love You Lucy ran ninth in that event and, with Multaja bypassing the Dane Ripper, it is one a piece this winter as the two smart mares prepare to do battle again.

Despite the size of the field only three other runners are currently under $10 in the latest Bright Shadow betting markets including co-$7 second favourites Jamaican Rain and Jami Lady drawn ideally in barriers one and four respectively.

Cranbourne’s Richard Laming saddles-up the consistent Manhattan Rain mare Jamaican Rain from the inside alley.

The rising eight-year-old is lightly-raced for her age having just her 20th career start on the weekend.

An eight-time winner, she boasts a 50% winning strike rate over the distance (6:3-0-1).

Jamaican Rain returns to Eagle Farm for the first time since her close fifth when only 1.35 lengths off Invincibella in last year’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

She is first-up off a lengthy time off not having raced since her narrow victory in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown in November last year.

If she produces fresh, she’s a definite danger looking to add to her strong first-up record (7:4-0-0).

Jamie Lady represents local Eagle Farm horseman Steven O’Dea, the nicely-bred Spirit Of Boom four-year-old coming off a first-up win at the track over 1000m from June 6.

That Stradbroke Day win saw her carry 59.5kg to victory and she will relish a drop back to 55.5kg on the weekend racing second-up on the back of a winning Deagon trial from June 23.

The David Vandyke-trained Your Song four-year-old Hold The Line ($9.50) rounds out the single-figure fancies before a number of potential value runners including last start Doomben winner Jadentowm ($10) and the local Tony Gollan-trained Solar Star ($11) who comes off ane Agle Farm win over 1300m from June 13.
