Reward For Effort stamped his return to winning ways on the track yesterday by defeating a nine-horse field in the $125,000 Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.
The Peter Moody-trained starter went out as the favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au, and proved to punters it often pays to go with the odds.
Guided by Nash Rawiller, Reward For Effort took to the front of the field off the jump and never looked back. The win cemented consecutive victories, after the four-year-old won the 2010 Sir John Monash Stakes last month.
The Blue Diamond Stakes winner held off an early threat from the David Payne-trained Winter King in barrier two, which also attempted a late surge but finished two lengths back.
John Thompson was pleased with Trusting which finished in third. The 2010 Concorde Stakes marked the four-year-olds start to spring racing, and was certainly a promising beginning.
Gai Waterhouse’s Montana Flyer failed to make any real impact finishing back in fourth. The Flying Spur mare was one of the favourites prior to the jump at [sportsbet], but just couldn’t provide over the distance.
Moody has revealed he will attempt to get another Group One win with Reward For Effort, pencilling in the $500,000 Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) on September 24. So if you would like to follow the promising runners’ spring, then make sure you head to Ladbrokes.com.au.
Also taking place at Rosehill on Saturday, and headlining the Golden Rose Stakes Day, was the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) which saw Toorak Toff light up the track. Remember, the Spring Carnival Racing will continue this weekend, so make sure to take advantage of the best odds at Ladbrokes.com.au!
