Melbourne Cup Back in Sight for Changingoftheguard

David Hayes-trained Changingoftheguard is back on track for the $5.5million Emirates Melbourne Cup on November 3 after a troublesome abscess preventing the horse from training has now burst.

The abscess on the Montjeu horse’s near hind hoof, which was discovered last Wednesday, burst after he left the Sandown track on Saturday following a 2000m gallop with jockey Glen Boss.

Veterinarian Craig McKellar has cleared the four-year-old and Hayes has confirmed the horse is back in training for the Flemington feature.
