Torvill The Bracelet 2018 Field & Odds

Torvill is tipped as the three-year-old filly to beat in Brisbane’s 2018 The Bracelet field and betting odds this Saturday in Queensland ahead of the winter racing carnival.

A possible lead-up to the Queensland Oaks on May 26, this year’s Listed $125,000 Aquis Park Gold Coast Bracelet (1630m) runs at Doomben Racecourse as part of the Victory Stakes Day program.

Due to run as Race 7 at 3:02pm (AEST), The Bracelet field features a capacity 15 three-year-old fillies plus the maximum five emergencies.

Sitting top of The Bracelet odds at Ladbrokes.com.au despite drawing the extreme outside barrier in the mile clash is Torvill ($2.35) for dual Queensland Oaks winning trainer Clarry Conners.

The progressive daughter of Not A Single Doubt is at a short-price to post her first win since a Melbourne Cup Carnival victory at Flemington last November.

She’s been racing competitively against quality competition in Sydney this autumn including her close second to Shoals in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) second-up at Randwick in early March.

Her latest run saw her take on the boys in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) when only one and a half-lengths fourth to California Turbo on April 14.

Torvill carted 59kg that day and comes back to 56.5kg on the weekend, but she needs to handle the wide gate.

At her only other mile assignment she was narrow runner-up to Luvaluva in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) so the extra distance on the weekend to suit.

Despite the bumper size of the field, just three other fillies are currently under double-figures in The Bracelet odds including the $7.50 second elect La Scopa.

She too is drawn wide with a double-digit gate to overcome, but the Matthew Dunn-trained Show A Heart filly comes off a string of nice runs this prep.

La Scopa won back-to-back races at Grafton and Ipswich respectively in March before her second to Improvise at the Sunshine Coast on April 14 in the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m).

Drawn similarly wide out in gate 14 of 15 that day, the progressive chestnut was only a neck beaten in her first mile assignment and looks well suited to the distance in Brisbane this weekend with jockey Jim Byrne retaining the ride.

The other dangers according to the bookies are the Princess Stakes winner Improvise ($8) chasing back-to-back wins and Chris Munce’s perennial placegetter Skate To Paris ($8.50).

Improvise represents Sydney’s Chris Waller who took out last year’s Queensland Oaks with Egg Tart (2017).

A nicely-bred daughter of Hinchinbrook, Improvise has had three pervious mile runs including her Princess Stakes success and is also Group 2 performed so looks to have genuine claims on the weekend with local Damian Browne in the saddle again.

As for Skate To Paris, the local comes off a string of placings having run top three in her past four starts including the Princess Stakes third when a half-length beaten in the race that could prove the form line to follow into Saturday.
