Rosehill Guineas 2018 Betting Update: Ace High Favourite

The three-year-olds feature of Golden Slipper Day sees a capacity field line-up in the 2018 Rosehill Guineas, betting on the ATC Derby lead-up led by proven Derby winner Ace High.

A full 18 young stayers are set to do battle in this year’s Group 1 $600,000 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday and there is early money for the David Payne-trained Ace High to strike fourth-up.

Sitting top of the Rosehill Guineas odds at $4.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au to salute for the punters for the second time in three years, the High Chaparral colt is improving each run.

Winner of the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington last November, Ace High was last seen running just over two lengths back fourth to Kementari in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Kementari takes on Winx in the George Ryder Stakes 2018 on Saturday, while Ace High will eat-up the extra distance of the Rosehill Guineas.

Payne is after a second Rosehill Guineas win after his success with Criterion in 2014, but the only problem could be the Heavy track as Ace High is yet to win on anything worse than Good.

Ace High could be a vulnerable Rosehill Guineas favourite on a wet track

If Ace High fails to get through the going that opens it up for an upset Rosehill Guineas result on the weekend and the current second elect to steal the show is the Chris Waller-trained D’Argento ($5.50).

Waller is yet to saddle-up a Rosehill Guineas winner and his runner on Saturday, So You Think colt D’Argento, is also a horse yet to win on Heavy going.

His seventh in the Randwick Guineas was better than it reads on paper, the grey also having to prove himself over further than 1500m for first time in a genuine distance test here.

Occupying the third line of Randwick Guineas betting is the genuine market mover Vin De Dance, the Kiwi raider heavily backed in from $9 to $6 with a wet track looking more and more likely.

Prepared across the Tasman by Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman, the Roc De Cambes gelding comes off a narrow win in the Group 1 NZ Derby (2400m).

Dropping in distance for his Australian debut, the rain-affected track plays into the favour of the New Zealander who is looking to add to the good record of Kiwis in the race.

Gingernuts (2017), Volkstock’n’barrell (2015) and the Baker-trained It’s A Dundeel (2013) have all recently won the race for NZ, last year’s champ also doing the NZ Derby – Rosehill Guineas double Vin De Dance chases on Saturday.

In the past 11 years just one Rosehill Guineas winner has won at double-figures and the last of the runners under $10 for the win this year is the Darren Weir-trained Cliff’s Edge ($7.50) drawn the rails.

Barrier one last produced a winner with Zabrasive (2010) and Cliff’s Edge is out to be the next on the short back-up having won last Friday night’s Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at The Valley in Melbourne.
