The Magic Millions Maiden Plate was a set weights race run at the Gold Coast Racecourse in January as part of the prestigious Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day.
It was held for the final time in 2022 and subsequently replaced by the Magic Millions The Debut races.
Offering $250,000 in total prize money the 1200m race accompanied a line-up of more lucrative features on the day including the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) and the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m).
The Gold Coast Magic Millions Maiden Plate was open only to Magic Millions graduates and who were yet to post a career win.
After a run in the race, horses may have continued onto the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and contest an event like the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in early February or the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill a fortnight later. In 2016 the MM Maiden Plate third place-getter Catch A Fire went on to win the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) in Melbourne the following month.
The Magic Millions Maiden Plate 2022 ran at the Gold Coast on Saturday January 15, 2022 for the final time and was won by the equal favourite Warmth ($3.50).
