  • 1st: #4 Lekvarte
  • 2nd: #3 Osmose
  • 3rd: #8 Rebel Rama

The Aspiration Quality is a Group 3 mile race for fillies and mares run at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Randwick Guineas Day during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Contested over 1600m the open quality event for fillies and mares aged three-years-old and above offers $250,000 in prize money as of 2024 and is run on the same day as the Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Other feature races on the Randwick Guineas Day program include the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), and the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m).

Runners in the Aspiration Quality field may come off a lead-up autumn run in an easier race and could be eyeing a run in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) back at Randwick in April during The Championships. Between the Aspiration Quality and the Queen Of The Turf Stakes many mares also run in the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill.

In 2020 Nettoyer successfully defended her Aspiration Quality title before backing-up to take out the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m).

The 2021 Aspiration Quality form was franked with the runner-up She’s Ideel also finishing second in that year’s Group 1 Tancred Stakes, third in the Group 1 Winx Stakes that spring and second in the 2022 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes the following year.

The Aspiration Quality 2024 ran at Randwick Racecourse on Saturday March 9, 2024 and saw the Joe Pride-trained top elect Lekvarte ($4.20F) salute for the punters with Tommy Berry in the saddle.

2024 Aspiration Quality Tips

Stay tuned for our insider Aspiration Quality 2024 Tips on the Randwick Group 3 event this season.

  • To Win: #3 Osmose ($6.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW

The Aspiration Quality presents a fascinating puzzle with several mares boasting solid lead-up form. However, the returning Osmose, trained by the renowned partnership of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, emerges as a nice pick at a good price. While not known for her first-up performances (having just one win in five attempts fresh), Osmose’s class makes her a potential threat in this Group 3. Her last outing in November was nothing short of impressive, finishing a narrow second in the prestigious Group 2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington over 2000m. Despite lacking victories beyond 1300m, that strong performance suggests she could handle the mile distance well in her first-up run. With Waterhouse and Bott’s reputation for expertly placing their mares, Osmose seems well-positioned for success. Furthermore, her recent Randwick trial was a positive indicator, and the favourable barrier four grants her a good starting position. With jockey Tim Clark’s experience on her back, Osmose has the potential to surprise and claim victory in this open contest.

2024 Aspiration Quality Field

The Aspiration Quality 2024 final field features a strong line-up of mares led in betting by the widely-drawn Joe Pride-trained Lekvarte.

2024 Aspiration Quality Nominations

Early nominations for the Aspiration Quality in 2024 are taken the Monday ahead of the race and will be published below once available.

Aspiration Quality History

The Aspiration Quality was inaugurated in 2006 making it one of Sydney’s youngest races. Lord Of The Land (2006) won the first edition and since then quality types including Sacred Choice (2010), Fibrillation (2012), and Heavens Above (2016) have added their names to the Aspiration Quality winners’ list.

Along with Randwick Racecourse the event has also taken place at Sydney’s Warwick Farm Racecourse (2011, 2013). It started as a Listed event but has been run as a Group 3 status race since 2014 and has always been part of the Randwick Guineas Day program.
