The Queensland Guineas is a mile feature for three-year-olds run on Stradbroke Handicap Day in June during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
The Group 2 Queensland Guineas is a 1600m event for all three year old horses and is worth $350,000 in prize money.
Traditionally held at Eagle Farm Racecourse in early June, the mile event is a set weights race which is held on Stradbroke Handicap Day, which is the pinnacle meeting of the annual Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
The day has three Group 1 races led by the Stradbroke Handicap, while the Queensland Derby for three-year-olds and JJ Atkins for two-year-olds are the other elite level Brisbane races on the card.
The Queensland Guineas field attracts a line-up of the season’s best three-year-old middle distance gallopers coming off lead-up runs in events like Eagle Farm’s Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) a fortnight earlier.
A number of times in recent years the Queensland Guineas has been held at Doomben Racecourse due to ongoing track issues at Eagle Farm.
The Queensland Guineas 2019 ran on Saturday June 8, 2019 and saw the race favourite Kolding come with a late win for the punters.

The Queensland Guineas 2019 Results went the way of the punters with the Chris Waller-trained favourite Kolding making it four wins on the trot with a surging late victory over the consistent filly Baccarat Baby. Pohutukawa ran a luckless third after getting caught-up on the turn. The Queensland Guineas success gave jockey James McDonald a treble in just the opening five races on Stradbroke Handicap Day. Kolding will now be aimed at the $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill in early November.

The Queensland Guineas field draws a strong line-up of winter three-year-olds from both local Brisbane stables as well as interstate raiders chasing the riches on offer in the sunshine state. It is a race for gallopers not quite up to the testing distance of the Group 1 Queensland Derby held on the same day and the Fred Best Classic is the best lead-up into the Queensland Guineas field.
Gallopers may also come off a run in Sydney’s Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) in late April and Sambro (2018) was the last to do the interstate Guineas double.
The official Queensland Guineas 2019 field and barriers are announced by Racing Queensland the Wednesday of race week and will be published below.
The 2019 Queensland Guineas Final Field is now out featuring 16 hopefuls including Group 1 winning filly Seabrook drawn out wide in barrier 12 as she looks to return to her best form.

The Queensland Guineas 2019 nominations are out the Monday leading-up to Stradbroke Handicap Day and will be available right here as soon as released.
First raced in 1896 and won by College Cap, the Queensland Guineas was originally an 8 Furlong Principal race until 1973 when it was changed to 1600m. Shortly after in 1979 the race was elevated to Group 3 status until 1988 when it was once again raised to Group Two status. The Queensland Guineas was not held from 1942 to 1945, 1983 or in 1996. The fastest winning time since 1988 was recorded by Sizzling in 2013 with 1 minute 24.3 seconds while the slowest time was 1 minute 43.8 seconds by Insecure in 1998.
In 2013 the Queensland Guineas moved race days, from Stradbroke Handicap Day to Queensland Oaks Day. The race distance was also changed from 1600m to 1400m. For 2017 the Queensland Guineas was contested over 1600m at Doomben Racecourse with the state of the Eagle Farm track deemed unsuitable for racing earlier in the carnival.
