Easy 2015 CB Cox Stakes Win for Delicacy

Held in the warmer month of December, the 2015 CB Cox Stakes is a 2100m staying event at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse.

Worth $250,000 in prize money, the Group 2 event attracts good staying horses which are suited to the weight-for-age conditions. The CB Cox Stakes is the first race over 2000m held during summer and it is the ideal lead-up race to the Perth Cup.

2015 CB Cox Stakes Field

The CB Cox Stakes field usually features some fairly strong stayers. As a 2100m race, most of the horses in the CB Cox Stakes field have plenty of experience over distances greater than 2000m. Usually, the majority of horses in the CB Cox Stakes field are locally stabled, but often some will travel across from eastern states.

2015 CB Cox Stakes Nominations

The CB Cox Stakes nominations usually attract some fairly decent local horses from stables around Ascot and Belmont Park. Although sometimes horses travel from NSW and Victoria stables to enter the CB Cox Stakes nominations, it is usually only the top runners that make it into the final field.

CB Cox Stakes History

Formerly run over 2400m, the C.B. Cox Stakes was reduced to 2100m in 2008 to coincide with the Perth Cup.

There have been several horses which have won the C.B Cox Stakes/Perth Cup double including Cats Fun (2007), Palatious (1993), Mirror Magic (1991) and Saratov (1988).

First won by Radnor in 1914, the race was originally known as the Grandstand Plate until 1919. Since then, it has been won more than once by Eracre (1925-26), Maple (1927-28), Gay Balkan (1939-40), Royal Coral (1965-66), Tropical Chief (1975-76) and Old Cobber (1997, 1999).
