The 2016 Blazer Stakes is a 1400m set weights and penalties race run on the first Sunday in October at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.

Previously called the Rose Of Kingston Stakes, the Group 2 Blazer Stakes is run during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and is worth $200,000 in prize money. The race takes place during October on the Turnbull Stakes Day. There are a total of nine black-type events on the day, five of which are group status. These include the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m), Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2500m).

2016 Blazer Stakes Field

The Blazer Stakes field usually attracts some very well experienced mares. Because only those horses aged four years and older can enter the Blazer Stakes field, it tends to a have a high level of talent and black-type placings each year.

The Blazer Stakes field and barrier draw was released by Racing Victoria on Wednesday September 28 and features a capacity field of mares including the Phillip Stokes-trained Miss Gunpowder and last year’s placegetters Manageress (2nd) and Jessy Belle (=3rd).

Previously known as the Honda Prelude, Hardy Brothers Prelude, Jayco Stakes, and the Rose Of Kingston Stakes. The race was renamed the Blazer Stakes in 2009.

Since 1989, the fastest winning time was recorded in 2004 by Skewiff with 1 minute 22.4 seconds whereas the slowest winning time was 1 minute 29.1 seconds by Chlorophyll in 1996.
