Epsom Super Saturday is the biggest race day of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and is held in early October at Royal Randwick Racecourse – the premier race track in New South Wales. With over $2 million in total prize money on offer across the Epsom Handicap Day card, the meeting features a triple shot of Group 1 racing action. Headlining a huge day of racing is the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) for stayers heading towards a possible Melbourne run in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and even the ‘race that stops a nation’ – the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) on the first Tuesday of November. The third elite level on the Super Saturday program at Randwick is the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) for three-year-old fillies.
It is a bumper spring race card on Epsom Super Saturday with a further three Group-status races. The Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) for weight-for-age sprinters, the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) are other highlights of the meeting.
