The four-year-old gelding is supposed to be partaking in an exhibition gallop alongside stablemate Woorimbetween races at the Australia Day meeting this Thursday in Brisbane.

Buffering will miss a planned exhibition gallop at Doomben this Thursday if the rain in Brisbane continues.

Doomben Racecourse is currently rated as a Heavy 8, and with weather not expected to let up over the next few days, the track may not be suitable for the pair.

Trainer Robert Heathcote may aim to run both Woorim and Buffering at Eagle Farm on Saturday instead if the weather improves.

“It looks like it’s going to be pretty wet following all the rain we’ve had and I may have to reassess things on the day,” Heathcote said.

“If I don’t gallop them on Thursday I may be able to work them on Saturday between races.”

The exhibition gallop is due to the give both Buffering and Woorim the opportunity to have a hit up in preparation for their autumn racing carnival debuts in Melbourne.

Buffering is due to resume in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington on February 18, while Woorim will debut in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on February 25.

The pair will both then run in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap before Woorim heads to Sydney for the remainder of the autumn racing season.

Heathcote will be looking to win the first group 1 race of his career this autumn after Buffering could not finish better than second to Black Caviar in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic.

“It’s unfortunate that I’ve run into a once-in-a-generation horse like Black Caviar,” Heathcote said.

“Buffering ran third to Black Caviar and Hay List in last year’s BTC Cup at Doomben and ran second to her in the Patinack Farm Classic.

“Woorim has been desperately unlucky in three Group Ones in the Sir Rupert Clarke in 2010 and last year in the Patinack Farm Classic and Stradbroke.

“That’s five Group Ones I’ve missed with them but I’m not too concerned.

“It’ll happen one day as I’ve got a good stable coming through.”

It was just as effortless as it always is with punters investing millions of dollars for a tiny return without even breaking a sweat.

“Its’ relief for me, I’m just grateful to be a little part of it,” he said.

“It’s just great she’s been able to put on a show for the crowd.’

The million dollar question is will she continue on a path to the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth, something those in the West are desperate for.

“The plane goes on Tuesday night, ill have a chat to the owners maybe Monday morning,” he said.

“I’d love to go but we’ve got to make sure the horse is right first.

“It’s a hot day and the track is pretty firm.”

Last start was admittedly a little disappointing when he was beaten seven lengths running sixth to Sepoy in the Caulfield Sprint, but back up to 1200 metres – which he has won four and placed twice in four of his 12 starts over – he should be a little more competitive.

Has a solid strike rate of 42.11% and has run third to Black Caviar before in the BTC Cup at Doomben back in May.

Roughie Pick: #6 Curtana

Running as Flemington Race 5 at 2:15pm (AEDT), the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) is Black Caviar’s for the taking with the defending champ opening at $1.05 in the Luxbet markets to go back-to-back in the Emirates Stakes Day sprint and extend her unbeaten career record to 16.

Unsurprisingly there are no other horses in the Patinack Farm Classic field and odds at single-figures, the next shortest-priced of her brave rivals being one of Black Caviar’s three stablemates engaged, Mid Summer Music at $26 through Luxbet.

Rob Heathcote’s Queensland raider Buffering occupies the third line of Patinack Farm Classic betting paying $31 followed by veteran galloper Scenic Blast and class mare Response at $41 each.

Saturday will be a special day for jockey Luke Nolen who missed the winning ride aboard his ace mount in the Patinack 12 months ago due to suspension, Ben Melham having taken over the duties to salute aboard the glamour mare for her maiden Group 1 success.

“He was disappointed last year, no doubt in the world, but Luke’s a straight shooter who gets on with life and moves on pretty quickly,” Moody said.

“But he has been a big part of her career the whole way through and certainly it will be to our benefit to have him there (this Saturday).”

After defending her Patinack Farm Classic crown on Saturday Black Caviar is set for an assault on Perth for the $500,000 Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on November 19.

Twelve months ago she faced the same number of Patinack Farm Classic rivals, defeating all six in emphatic style including runner-up Star Witness by four lengths, which was her maiden Group 1 turf triumph.

Since Emirates Stakes Day last year Black Caviar has exceeded the expectations of all and become a genuine cult horse with another five elite level victories during her autumn – winter campaign.

After finishing three lengths away fourth to fellow New Zealander King Mufhasa in the Toorak Handicap over the mile at Caulfield on October 8, Wall Street produced the eye-catching run of the Cox Plate to come from the back of the field and finish less than two lengths away fourth to winner Pinker Pinker.

Last year before their Emirates Stakes success Wall Street ran seventh in the Cox Plate, and they look on track for a gallant title defense on Saturday having recovered from the minor bout of colic that saw them scratched from last Saturday’s Mackinnon Stakes.

Cox Plate runner-up Jimmy Choux, another gun Kiwi galloper, has also been nominated for the Emirates Stakes 2011.

The John Bary-trained Thorn Park four-year-old is looking to add a sixth elite level to their incredibly impressive record, their second in Australia after winning the Rosehill Guineas in the autumn.

One horse fresh off a Victoria Derby Day victory has been entered in an attempt to win on successive Saturdays at Flemington with the Robert Heathcote-trained Woorim.

Woorim upset a quality field of middle-distance gallopers in the Group 3 tab.com.au Stakes (1400m) on Derby Day overcoming the extreme outside barrier (15 of 15) to put two lengths on runner-up Thankgodyou’rehere when ridden by Michael Rodd who retains the ride in the Emirates.

Sepoy has claimed another Group 1 with a win in the Coolmore Stud Stakes

Superstar colt Sepoy gave trainer Peter Snowden his second Victoria Derby Day victory in the fourth this afternoon, the now four-time Group 1 champion hanging on to dispalay an iron will to win in the $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes(1200m).

Winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes – Golden Slipper double as a juvenile, and more recently taking care of the older horses in the Manikato Stakes, Elusive Quality three-year-old Sepoy went into double digit wins with the Coolmore Stud Stakes 2011 their 10^th career success from 11 starts.

He was the first horse in Australian racing history to win the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper and then come back as a three-year-old to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby Day.

A true turf hero having won over $3.6 million in prize money, Sepoy was the deserved odds-on favourite in the Luxbet markets for the Coolmore jumping as the $1.30 top elect in the 10-horse field.

Continuing the good luck for the Derby Day punters, Sepoy was the third odds-on favourite to salute in the opening four races following the win by their up-and-coming stablemate Galah in the first and Crown Oaks-bound Atlantic Jewel maintaining her flawless record in the Wakeful Stakes.

While there were queries about whether Sepoy was as brilliant down the Flemington straight, he showed that he was capable of not only blistering wins by big margins, but gritty victories hanging onto a lead with a fast finishing chaser in Foxwedge.

Sepoy and race jockey Kerrin McEvoy jumped away very well as did Unique Quality and Clarry Conners’ honest filly Satin Shoes.

It was Satin Shoes who went to the lead, Foxwedge tracking up on the outside while Masthead was ridden cold back last of all.

The favourite started their run with around 300 metres to go, Sepoy grabbing Satin Shoes and hitting the lead by the 200 metres before pulling away.

Originally it looked as though Sepoy would put two lengths on his rivals in the Coolmore, but the John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge came up hard and fast on the outside with a brave challenge.

Running the race of their life Foxwedge gave it their all, but Sepoy hung on to win by a neck.

In a photo for third a further two lengths away Satin Shoes was found to have finished off the winning Coolmore Stud Stakes trifecta.

If there were two more strides in the feature there would have been a massive Derby Day upset.

“You get a little bit nervous…he’s just been winning so well,” McEvoy said after the race.

“He’s been fantastically well handled the whole way through.

“He’s got a fantastic record now.

“It’d be nice to see him in Australia for a couple of runs in the autumn before he heads overseas.”

Sepoy wasn’t as dominant today, showing that he was definitely coming towards the end of his preparation, and while he didn’t display his usual acceleration he did show the greatness of a champion racehorse digging deep to hold on for the win, something Snowden was quick to credit.

“With Sepoy the margin issue isn’t that big,” Snowden said.

“He’s a great horse, he’s been up a long time and although the margin was small the effort was huge.”

The Coolmore Stud Stakes was Sepoy’s spring grand final, Snowden saying they would not be pressing onto next Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival where Australia’s sprint queen Black Caviar vies for her 16^th straight career success.

“He’s got a lot of maturing to do,” Snowden said.

“He’s just not physically or mentally ready to take on a champion (like Black Caviar) but one day he will be.”

As expected in Cox Plate Day Race 5 superstar mare Black Caviar claimed her 15^th consecutive career victory, winning back-to-back editions of the $300,000 Group 2 Schweppes Stakes (1200m).

It was an as predicted effortless win from the unbeaten queen, Black Caviar now onto the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day before heading to Perth for a shot at the $500,000 Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on November 19.

Another odds-on favourite that saluted for the Luxbet punters was Manawanui in the fourth, the Golden Rose winner taking out the $200,000 Mitchelton Wines Vase (2040m) and confirming their favouritism for next Saturday’s 2011 Victoria Derby at Flemington.

The marquee race of the meet was of course Race 8 – the $3 million Group 1 Tatts Cox Plate (2040m) – which was won in an upset by Greg Eurell’s classy mare Pinker Pinker.

Race Review: With no Black Caviar in her way today there was simply no stopping Canberra filly Karuta Queen. She was the classiest in the field and showed that with her blistering three length success. After having a little bit of trouble on the tight Moonee Valley turn, once in the clear there was no stopping this champion French galloper, Americain confirming their favouritisim to go back-to-back in the world’s richest. Tullamore was gallant in another placing following their third in the Caulfield Cup, but they need about 10 horses above them in the order of entry for the big one to gain a start. Brilliant first Australian run by Bart Cummings’ German import Illo for third here – will also tighten in Melbourne Cup markets at Luxbet.

Black Caviar made it 15 wins in a row when she took out the 2011 Schweppes Stakes with ease ahead of Doubtful Jack and Here De Angels.

Black Caviar will head to the 2011 Patinack Farm Classic and 2011 Winterbottom Stakes this campaign.

The five-year-old mare was always scheduled to take her place up the Flemington straight in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic, however, the public had up until now been left in the dark when it came to the Winterbottom Stakes.

The Winterbottom Stakes will take place as part of the  Festival of Perth Racing on November 19, 2011.

Peter Moody confirmed his plans to travel Black Caviar to Perth following today’s Schweppes Stakes win.

“The owners have always looks very much forward to showcasing her to Australia,” Moody said.

“Perth’s very much in the picture.

“All roads lead to Perth hopefully.”

The Winterbottom Stakes was upgraded by the Australian Pattern Committee from a Group 2 to a Group 1 race in July in time for Black Caviar’s expected appearance.
