As expected Crown Oaks Day 2011 was a terrific day full of elite racing action, and below punters can find the full Flemington race results listing the top four finishers along with the winning times and margins for the nine spring showdowns on the card.

2011 Crown Oaks winner Mosheen was the headline runner at Flemington on Thursday

The day got underway with the $100,000 La Vie En Rose Vase (1800m) where trainer Robert Hickmott and jockey Nicholas Hall secured their maiden spring success at Flemington with Fawkner saluting for the punters.

It was an interesting opening to 2011 Crown Oaks Day with the two equal favourites finishing at opposite ends of the field, Fawkner the winner while Dead End dropped away to finish 12 lengths away last.

The favourite got rolled in the next with the Peter Snowden-trained Cliques finishing third to Peter Morgan’s Oasis Bloom in the $100,000 Crown Promenade Trophy (1700m), the winner a filly to watch having just her second career start on Crown Oaks Day.

Class prevailed in the third, which was also the opening black-type feature of Crown Oaks Day, with Group 1 winner Ortensia powering home to win the $150,000 Listed G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) in her first start since May and her first start for new trainer Paul Messara.

An upset in the fourth saw Liam Birchley’s $15 chance Emmalene beat a top field of more fancied fillies including runner-up Miss Stellabelle and third placed Anise in the $150,000 Listed Gucci Stakes (1200m).

Always a popular race on Crown Oaks Day is the greys-only which ran as the fifth, Robbie Griffiths’ Cranbourne galloper Dash For Viz bringing their provincial circuit form to town for an upset win in the $100,000 TCL 3D TV Plate (1400m).

The headline race of the day was of course the sixth, the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) won in breathtaking style by Robert Smerdon’s superstar in the making Mosheen.

Having been denied Group 1 glory by two of the best in the business when second to Sepoy as a two-year-old in the Golden Slipper and then again to Atlantic Jewel in the Thousand Guineas this season, Mosheen had no trouble jumping from the mile to the 2500 metres and lead-all-the-way before racing off to put an incredible nine lengths on her Crown Oaks rivals.

It wasn’t over after the Crown Oaks either with three more races left to run, Mick Price’s progressive More Than Ready colt Proliferate saluting in the next to maintain their undefeated record to date with an eye-catching effort in the $150,000 Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1800m).

The last of the Listed events on Crown Oaks Day was race eight, the $150,000 Listed Swisse Vitamins Stakes (1000m) won by Rocking Force in an upset, before things came to a close with the $100,000 The Grazia Ultimate Style Guide (1600m) just before six pm Melbourne time.

Flemington Race 1 – La Vie En Rose Vase (1800m)

1st: #7 Fawkner

2nd: #5 Bellissimo

3rd: #12 Ulundi

4th: Rialya

Winning Time: 1:49.56

Winning Margin: 3.3L

Race Review: Fawkner hands Robert Hickmott his first spring win at Flemington, the Reset four-year-old never going to be beaten once they took over with 150 metres to go to power away for a tidy three length win.

Flemington Race 2 – Crown Promenade Trophy (1700m)

1st: #7 Oasis Bloom

2nd: #6 Princess Rock

3rd: #1 Cliques

4th: #3 Twilighting

Winning Time: 1:44.34

Winning Margin: 0.1L

Race Review: Gritty final-stride win by an up and coming filly having just their second career start, Oasis Bloom hanging on for victory in a thrilling photo-finish after a late challenge by Princess Rock down the outside.

Flemington Race 3 – G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m)

1st: #2 Ortensia

2nd: #4 Balmont

3rd: #15 Miss Octopussy

4th: #13 Dystopia

Winning Time: 1:3.22

Winning Margin: 2.0L

Race Review: Ortensia was right back to her best after a long spell, soaring up through the middle of this field to power home and show her class. Surprisingly this was the former Group 1 The Galaxy winner’s maiden Flemington success.

Flemington Race 4 – Gucci Stakes (1200m)

1st: #7 Emmalene

2nd: #2 Miss Stellabelle

3rd: #3 Anise

4th: #9 Shopaholic

Winning Time: 1:10.72

Winning Margin: 0.5L

Race Review: The favouites didn’t have enough to run down this progressive Jet Spur filly who is now three from four in her career. Successful trip to Melbourne for Brisbane trainer Liam Birchley with Emmalene proving her ability against a strong field.

Flemington Race 5 – TCL 3D TV Plate (1400m)

1st: #9 Dash For Viz

2nd: #2 Chosen To Fly

3rd: #11 Emboldened

4th: #12 Grand Britannia

Winning Time: 1:10.72

Winning Margin: 0.5L

Race Review: Dashalot lead this field right until the turn for home but once on the straight it was a real fight for the lead. Eventually Emboldened hit the front but in the end it was Dash For Viz who flew home with a photo finish for second. Dash For Viz had good form on the provincial cirucuti an was too strong for them on Crown Oaks Day.

Flemington Race 6 – Crown Oaks (2500m)

1st: #1 Mosheen

2nd: #2 Dowager Queen

3rd: #5 Roma Giaconda

4th: #7 Vittoria

Winning Time: 2:39.39

Winning Margin: 9.0L

Race Review: Mosheen put to bed any doubts over her ability to stay, Smerdon’s class filly jumping from 1600 metres to 2500 metres with no worries at all. Hitting the front soon after jumping Mosheen dictated the pace in her distance test, getting an easy run settling into nice rhythm with no pressure. On the straight she left them for dead sprinting away to win by nine lengths leaving open the question just how many lengths could Atlantic Jewel have won by.

Flemington Race 7 – Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1800m)

1st: #3 Proliferate

2nd: #11 Vincente

3rd: #2 Euryale

4th: #9 Sleep’N Pete

Winning Time: 1:50.62

Winning Margin: 1.3L

Race Review: Rewarding a masterful training effort for Mick Price, progressive More Than Ready colt Proliferate maintained their flawless career record winning their third race from as many starts. Proving themselves as a definite stayer to watch, and one with a huge future looking towards the autumn and the AJC Oaks, Proliferate got a nice run down near the rails to score a Crown Oaks Day success having moved very quickly from a Geelong maiden to this.

Flemington Race 8 – Swisse Vitamins Stakes (1000m)

1st: #17 Rocking Force

2nd: #10 Canali

3rd: #4 Perturbo

4th: #7 Cascabel

Winning Time: 57.58

Winning Margin: 0.1L

Race Review: In a juicy paying Quinella Rocking Force held on in a tight photo finish in the eighth, the always honest Oamaru Force seven-year-old recording their fifth career success from 17 starts – a light record for their age – and their 14th top three finish.

Flemington Race 9 – The Grazia Ultimate Style Guide (1600m)

1st: #2 Its Prince

2nd: #3 Belgietto

3rd: #11 Snow Cover

4th: #4 Cosmic Causeway

Winning Time: 1-36.89

Winning Margin: 0.1L

Mosheen has proved her doubters wrong by simply blowing away her rivals across 2500m in the 2011 Crown Oaks.

She was stepping up from just 1600m last Saturday in the Myer Classic to over a mile and a half in the Oaks.

It’s the type of preparation rarely seen in the race and one that certainly hasn’t produced too many winners over the years.

It was a fantastic training effort from Robert Smerdon though as Mosheen didn’t just win the race, she absolutely caned them.

It was the type of win that was expected when Atlantic Jewel was still targeting it but with her out few expected the result we had today.

Danny Nikolic was the rider aboard Mosheen and he simply couldn’t have had an easier time of it out in front.

She jumped the best of them and settled on the pace to never be challenged at any stage.

On paper there was no speed in the race and that’s what eventuated with Mosheen simply walking her way around the course before being opened up on the turn.

From there it was game over with Dowager Queen making up no ground in second and Roma Giaconda coming from the tail to pick up third spot.

Nikolic said the way he assessed the race before hand is exactly how it panned out.

“He (Smerdon) left it to me, there wasn’t a lot of speed on paper,” he said.

“They were all saying she wouldn’t run the trip.

“Looking at her now, she could go around and do that again.”

Despite her massive winning margin he still isn’t getting carried away about what the future may hold.

“Three year olds in the spring isn’t a great guide to see if they are a genuine stayer,” he said.

That said he does expect her to keep going from here.

“She’s been an underrated filly from the day i started riding her,” he said.

“She’s run second to two of the best we’ve got going around in Sepoy in Atlantic Jewel.

“There was no way she was going to get beaten off the turn, she hadn’t spent any petrol.”

For Smerdon it’s a nice win, especially given he wasn’t even coming her until a few days ago.

He admits he was running scared of Atlantic Jewel but based on that performance you have to wonder if she would have given her a run for her money.

“I’d hoped that she’d relax enough,” he said.

“Danny said the other day if I can put her to sleep for 2000m nothing will beat it.”

Mosheen was a bit of a market mover pre-race and came into $5.00 with online bookmaker Luxbet.

Dowager Queen paid $1.60 for second while Roma Giaconda was a healthy $7.60 for third.

Since betting opened on the $1 million Group 1 VRC Crown Oaks (2500m) at our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet, the punters have kept coming for the talented Fastnet Rock filly Mosheen.

Mosheen has been the best-backed 2011 Crown Oaks hope since markets opened

After a big win in the Edward Manifold Stakes, Golden Slipper runner-up Mosheen powered on to finish a brave second to spruik filly Atlantic Jewel is the Thousand Guineas before her credible last-start sixth against the older mares in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day.

Mosheen has never raced further than a mile making the 2500 metres of the Oaks today a massive distance increase, but it hasn’t scared off the punters who have crunched her in from $6 to $4.20 at Luxbet.

Smerdon, however, has mixed thoughts over how his class filly will handle her stamina test today.

“I think our filly’s formline is as good as anything else, but it’s a whole new ball game going to the 2500 and that’s the issue with her,” he said.

“She’s drawn a really good gate to just have an easy run behind the speed so the stage is set for her to have her crack if she can run the distance.

“If she can relax for the first 2000 (metres) she can be right in it, if she doesn’t relax she won’t run the trip.”

Race favourite steady at $3.70 is Dowager Queen in gate eight, Graeme Rogerson’s Kiwi filly out to give her sire Savabeel another classics win.

Other top Crown Oaks betting fancies are the Bart Cummings-trained Ethereal Stakes winner Gliding out from $6.50 to $7 and Rahveel who was the surprise runner-up to Atlantic Jewel in the Wakeful Stakes last time out paying $6 for the win at Luxbet.

There is more than just a Flemington classic victory on offer to the 2011 Crown Oaks winner this afternoon, the filly that salutes in today’s $1 million showdown to also qualify for next year’s Melbourne Cup.

Scarlett Lady is on track for an autumn return before targeting the 2012 Melbourne Cup

One of the balloting conditions for the time-honoured $6 million Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m), held annually as Flemington Race 7 on the first Tuesday of November and won this year by the French-trained raider Dunaden, is that a horse may win a Group 1 flat race run over 2300 metres of further to qualify.

The VRC Crown Oaks is one such race being a Group 1 feature run over 2500 metres.

In fact, the top three horses in the Crown Oaks 2011 finishing order will all pass the first ballot clause for the 2012 Melbourne Cup.

Current favourite in the Crown Oaks odds at Luxbet for this afternoon’s showdown, which is scheduled to run as Flemington Race 6 at 3:40pm (AEDT), is the Graeme Rogerson-trained Dowager Queen.

Drawn in gate eight and coming off a number of gallant placings this spring including her last-start third in the Wakeful Stakes, Dowager Queen is bred to stay being a daughter of ace Aussie sire Savabeel who Rogerson prepared for their 2004 Cox Plate win and Victoria Derby second.

She is also a stablemate of one-time fancy for this year’s Melbourne Cup Scarlett Lady, also a daughter of Savabeel, the Queensland Oaks winner forced out for the spring having to undergo leg surgery following her eighth in the Underwood Stakes in mid-September.

Savabeel is fast emerging as a sire to Australia’s best classic winners having also produced this year’s Victoria Derby winner Sangster.

“The Group Ones mean a lot to Savabeel as a stallion,” Rogerson said.

“He’s got the pedigree to produce stayers and we need staying sires to compete with the Europeans.”

With Scarlett Lady working hard to get back on track and now Dowager Queen coming through the staying ranks, there is every chance Rogerson and owner Max Whitby could be accepting for both Savabeel mares in the 2012 Melbourne Cup field.

“She (Scarlett Lady) will be back in the autumn and hopefully this time we get her to the Cup,” Rogerson said.

“Dowager Queen could be there too so long as she gets the 2500 meters as I think she will.”

Dowager Queen’s main rivals in the 2011 VRC Crown Oaks this afternoon are Thousand Guineas second placegetter Mosheen ($4.40 Luxbet), Wakeful runner-up Rahveel ($6 Luxbet) and the Bart Cummings-trained Gliding ($7 Luxbet) who defeated six of her 10 Oaks rivals in the Ethereal Stakes.

A younger half-brother to superstar Aussie expat So You Think is one of the key contenders lining up as part of the Crown Oaks Day 2011 action at Flemington today, Now You Know the narrow favourite to win the $150,000 Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1800m).

Scheduled to run as Flemington Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEDT), the 2011 Myer Spring Fashion Stakes field currently features 10 three-year-olds following the early scratching of #7 Rosewall.

Dwayne Dunn rides So You Think's half-brother Now You Know on Crown Oaks Day

Sitting at the top of the Myer Spring Fashions Stakes odds at Luxbet is the Danny O’Brien-trained Now You Know who has firmed in from $4.420 to $4.00 to secure their second spring win on the trot.

Drawn on the rails today Elusive City colt Now You Know, who shares the same dam (Triassic) as dual Cox Plate hero So You Think, was last seen running away to win a maiden over the mile at Sale on October 23 by an easy four lengths.

It is a notable class rise for the youngster today who faces a quality field of rivals include the Peter Moody-trained filly Torah ($4.20 Luxbet) who comes off a win in the Listed Jeep Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day and Mick Price’s undefeated More Than Ready colt Proliferate ($4.80 Luxbet).

For their first win Now You Know was ridden by Dwayne Dunn who retains the ride in the Myer Spring Fashion Stakes today.

“He’s starting to do things right and really impressed last time,” Dunn said of the three-year-old.

“There’s a lot of pressure, not so much on me but on the horse because of who he is (related to).

“He is still learning and I think he will be set for the autumn in Sydney but I am hoping he goes well (on Crown Oaks Day).”

Dunn has a strong book of rides at Flemington today including a mount in the day’s marquee race, the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at 3:40pm (AEDT) on outside chance Flame Of Lanka.

Drawn in barrier five of 11, the David Hayes-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Flame Of Lanka comes off a fourth to Torah in the Jeep Stakes, before which she claimed a tidy victory at Morphettville Parks.

Despite her nice gate and solid lead-up form Flame Of Lanka just looks to be lacking a bit of class and experience for the Crown Oaks 2011 and as such is paying $26 in the Luxbet markets.

Today the best place to head for all of your Crown Oaks Day bets is the Tabcorp-owned and trusted online bookmaker Luxbet who has a $500 bonus bet waiting for new depositing customers that quote the exclusive code BONUSBET!

Racing kicks off at Flemington this afternoon with the older gallopers contesting the $100,000 La Vie En Rose Vase (1800m) at 12:20pm (AEDT).

From there the racing and betting action just gets better and better with the opening black-type on the Crown Oaks Day card being Race 3 at 1:40pm (AEDT) – the $150,000 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) where class mares including Ortensia, Valentine Miss and Miss Octopussy face off.

Small time punters that just like a spring carnival flutter will want to hang around for Flemington Race 5 today, the greys-only showdown which is always a major attraction on Crown Oaks Day.

Of course the big one today is Race 6 – the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) due to jump at 3:40pm (AEDT).

With boom filly Atlantic Jewel sidelined with injury, Graeme Rogerson’s Kiwi raider Dowager Queen is the Crown Oaks betting favourite at Luxbet paying $3.70 to break her Group 1 maiden today.

Other smart fillies engaged include Robert Smerdon’s Thousand Guineas runner-up Mosheen ($4.40) having her first test at a distance greater than 1600m, the Bart Cummings-trained Gliding ($7) out to give the master his 10th Crown Oaks success and surprise Wakeful runner-up Rahveel ($6).

Below are the current Flemington scratchings for Crown Oaks Day 2011 as well as the favourites in the betting markets at Luxbet so you can see who is in, who is out and who is favoured to snare a Melbourne Cup Carnival victory today.

Remember, when you’re ready to get your Crown Oaks bets down the only place to go is Luxbet who are offering Best Tote Exotics + 5% Bonuses on every single Flemington race today!

The next Group 1 race of the time-honoured Melbourne Cup Carnival is the 2011 Crown Oaks at Flemington Racecourse today, and with one of the most open fields of three-year-old fillies seen in recent years, below the Races.com.au have our insider Crown Oaks tips and trifecta selection.

The Races.com.au Crown Oaks Trifecta Tip is #1 Mosheen from #2 Dowager Queen and #4 Rahveel – Lock it in now at Luxbet!
Join to bet now

Having done a detailed 2011 Crown Oaks Field & Form Guide Analysis earlier, we have studied the facts and stats on the $1 million showdown and to us there are two standouts.

The two fillies that emerge as the Crown Oaks best bets to make based on the historical data and the form are also the two top elects in the Luxbet markets, just in reverse order.

Based on strike rates, form consistency, class, statistical advantages and records the Races.com.au have #1 Mosheen rated special to win the Crown Oaks 2011 from the easing favourite #2 Dowager Queen.

Races.com.au Crown Oaks 2011 Tips – Flemington Race 6 Betting:

1st: #1 Mosheen

Rated Special to win @ $4.60 – Bet now at Luxbet

Mosheen emerges as the best filly in the Crown Oaks field despite this being her first start over a distance greater than a mile (1600m).

She is also the Crown Oaks betting market mover at Luxbet having been crunched in from $6 to $4.60 by the punters.

Drawn in barrier two, Mosheen is likely to settle just off the Crown Oaks pace on Thursday before finishing them off with her powerful sprint.

There may be queries over the distance but considering Mosheen’s class, she is the obvious pick for us.

She ran second in the Thousand Guineas two starts back, which is a nice form race for the Crown Oaks, and was far from disgraced last start when finishing four and a half lengths away sixth against older rivals in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day.

A steady 25% Win Rate and impressive 75% Place Rate prove her consistency and she is the only filly here to have won at Flemington.

Her trainer Robert Smerdon believes it is about time a Group 1 victory came Mosheen’s way, and we think so too.

“She was beaten in the (Golden) Slipper by the best colt (Sepoy) and she was beaten in the Thousand Guineas by the best filly (Atlantic Jewel), so you’d like to think a filly like her will get her chance to win a Group 1 because she’s proven she’s right up there with them,” Smerdon said.

2nd: #2 Dowager Queen

$3.70 to Win and $1.57 to Place @ Luxbet

She is the easing favourite and there is a lot to like about Dowager Queen, but for us Mosheen just looks a little nicer.

But if it is the favourite you want to back the stats are there for her.

An equal 25% Win Rate and 75% Place Rate with Mosheen, Dowager Queen is probably unlucky not to have a few more wins to her name.

History also says Dowager Queen can win with favourites boasting a nice record.

Her current $3.70 price to win in the Crown Oaks odds at Luxbet also shines through as a sign with the average winning price in the Crown Oaks over the past decade being $3.70.

While barrier two should suit Mosheen, gate eight looks great for Dowager Queen so it will become a case of whether the pace turns the race into a genuine staying test or a sprint finish.

3rd: #4 Rahveel

$5.50 to Win and $1.95 to Place @ Luxbet

Rahveel is third favourite in the Crown Oaks markets for a reason.

She may not have the right draw to win being in the extreme outside gate (11) but there are plenty of other things in her corner to be competitive on Thursday including her Flemington experience and her eye-catching second in the Wakeful.

Breeding says she will get the trip being a daughter of Zabeel.

Roughie: #11 Pentimento

$16 to Win and $4.16 to Place @ Luxbet

Upset winner? Upset placegetter? Both are real possibilities and we will definitely have Pentimento in our exotics for value.

Why? She is drawn in barrier seven which is the gate Brazilian Pulse jumped from last year to win and she has the equal highest Win Rate of the field (33.33%).

We are putting our money where our mouth is and have our Crown Oaks Trifecta Tip locked in at our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet.

If successful we will be celebrating double times with Luxbet paying Best Tote Exotics plus a 5% bonus on all winning exotics this Crown Oaks Day!

Favourites have a great record in the race and this year’s easing favourite is #2 Dowager Queen ($3.70 Luxbet)

Her current price makes #2 Dowager Queen historically a nice bet with the average price of the Crown Oaks winner over the past 10 years being $3.60

Over the past decade barrier 5 – 8 have been the most successful producing five winners; fillies drawn in this range for Thursday are #9 Flame Of Lanka (barrier five), #5 Roma Giaconda (barrier six), #11 Pentimento (barrier seven) and #2 Dowager Queen (barrier eight)

The best Flemington track records belong to #1 Mosheen (3-1-0-0), #2 Dowager Queen (1-0-1-0) and #4 Rahveel (2-0-1-0)

While no filly has been to the Oaks distance (2500m) before, the only horse that has won at a distance greater than a mile is #3 Gliding (2000m)

Melbourne Cup Day may be done and dusted for another year with French raider Dunaden the 2011 Melbourne Cup winner in the closest finish our greatest race have ever seen, but there is still plenty of elite racing and betting action to enjoy this Melbourne Cup Carnival including 2011 Crown Oaks Day on Thursday at Flemington Racecourse.

There are a limited number of $500 Bonus Bets left at Luxbet for first-time customers this spring. Remember the codeword BONUSBET and hurry, these won’t last!

An excellent nine-race Crown Oaks Day program is headlined by the three-year-old fillies’ classic, the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), where a field of 11 hopefuls will face off in Flemington Race 6 at 3:40pm (Melbourne time).

Satin Shoes is one of the headline runners on Crown Oaks Day 2011

There are also four Listed races on the Crown Oaks Day card on Thursday which have attracted a plethora of quality contenders including classy sprinter Ortensia resuming in the $150,000 Listed G.H. Mumm Stakes (1200m) and the Clarry Conners-trained Satin Shoes racing in the $150,000 Listed Gucci Stakes (1200m).

Spring is the best time of year for the punters, so below we have made our insider Crown Oaks Day 2011 betting tips on all nine races public knowledge so you can get more bang from your betting buck before the season’s out.

Listing our top three picks in all of the Flemington races on Thursday, not only can you put our predictions to the test by backing the Crown Oaks Day winners at Luxbet, but you can also get in on those lucrative exotic markets.

Right now is the time to get down some exotic bets as Luxbet are offering an exclusive Best Tote Exotics + 5% Bonus offer on every race on every card that has a Group 1 race this spring, including Crown Oaks Day.

So go crazy and enjoy this awesome offer, with NO cap on your winnings, but only this spring and only at Luxbet!

2011 Crown Oaks Day Tips

Race 1 – 12:20pm La Vie En Rose Vase (1800m)

#4 Elusive King ($7) from #7 Fawkner ($4.80) and #5 Bellissimo ($12) – Bet now at Luxbet

Peter Moody’s consistent Elusive Quality four-year-old Elusive King back at Flemington where the track and distance will suit, third in the Rokk Ebony Cup back in March and a narrow second in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) in February, should be able to recapture that form.

Race 2 – 1:00pm Crown Promenade Trophy (1700m)

#6 Princess Rock ($7.50) from #1 Cliques ($3.50) and #2 Magic Milady ($12) – Bet now at Luxbet

The Darren Weir-trained Princess Rock faces a classy field here and this is a big step-up for the lightly-raced Rock Of Gibraltar filly who has only had two starts at her home track at Ballarat, but she comes off a win, deserves a shot, should relish getting to this distance and is weighted for success.

Race 3 – 1:40pm G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m)

#8 Valentine Miss ($2.80) from #14 Lady Mahler ($14) and #2 Ortensia ($6) – Bet now at Luxbet

Plenty of talent and plenty to select, but we are sticking with the deserved favourite Valentine Miss for the win, with all the top fancies drawn wide she looks ok in gate eight, Mark Kavanagh’s Danetime mare has built a nice record over the past seasons and has been thereabouts this spring, looks her time to shine and win her first race since September last year.

Race 4 – 2:20pm Gucci Stakes (1200m)

#1 Satin Shoes ($7.50) from #2 Miss Stellabelle ($4.80) and #7 Emmalene ($14) – Bet now at Luxbet

Satin Shoes isn’t the favourite here but in our eyes she should be, there are some fresh and lightly-raced hopes in excellent form here so an upset could very well eventuate – see Karuta Queen’s defeat on Melbourne Cup Day – but class gets you a long way and she will relish the step back in that having just run third to Sepoy in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Race 5 – 3:00pm TLC 3D TV Plate (1400m)

#11 Emboldened ($16) from #9 Dash For Viz ($6) and #13 King Cobweb ($8) – Bet now at Luxbet

Nice value pick here, Emboldened to get a gun run from barrier five, they face some really well-tried horses but this four-year-old grey caught our eye with their fours striaght victories at Fannie Bay last season, they deserve a Cup Day appearance and look a great upset chance.

Race 6 – 3:40pm Crown Oaks (2500m)

#1 Mosheen ($4.60) from #2 Dowager Queen ($3.70) and #5 Roma Giaconda ($16) – Bet now at Luxbet

Wide open race, Mosheen gets the draw, has the class and set weights suit. If she gets the distance, she wins.

Race 7 – 4:25pm Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1800m)

#1 Torah ($4.60) from #3 Proliferate ($45.50) and #4 World Domination ($8.50) – Bet now at Luxbet

This one is even more open than the Oaks, seven from 11 at single figures and all livewire chances. Can’t go past Torah despite their 57kg topweight, Moody-trained filly beat a top field that included Crown Oaks hopes in a Cox Plate Day black-type over the mile, they rise in weight but get the right gate (2) and distance will be no worries.

Race 8 – 5:10pm Swisse Vitamins Stakes (1000m)

#15 Falvelina ($31) from #4 Perturbo ($6) and Master Harry ($3.70) – Bet now at Luxbet

Roughie bet of the day here, Falvelina is hit or miss and this time we are backing them to hit. A huge field of sprinters, they get barrier two and if they don’t get stuck on the rails they can give the Queenslanders a win. Each Way is probably best.

Race 9 – 5:50pm The Grazia Ultimate Style Guide (1600m)

#12 Bianmick ($26) from #4 Cosmic Causeway ($4.40) and #11 Snow Cover ($8) - Bet now at Luxbet

Another long-shot to see out the day, they are drawn wide but over the mile that should be okay for this handy galloper coming off back-to-back wins. Just have a feeling about this wone having watched them run and win at Cranbourne last-start over the mile really well to flash home with 57kg (they are 53kg here) after being disappointed for a run.

*Note all race times listed are local time

*Note all odds quoted are Fixed Win & subject to change – see Luxbet for updates and to bet now

Graeme Rogerson’s consistent New Zealand-trained filly Dowager Queen is installed as the narrow favourite in a now wide-open 2011 Crown Oaks betting market for Thursday’s third Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting.

Luxbet have extended their $500 Welcome Bonus Bet for Crown Oaks Day, but hurry, there is only limited offers left!

After the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), running as Flemington Race 6 at 3:40pm (local time) on Thursday, lost its drawcard contender with Atlantic Jewel withdrawn due to a hamstring injury, the Luxbet punters now have no dominant odds-on favourite ruling the markets.

Mosheen is the early 2011 Crown Oaks betting market mover

Of the 11 three-year-old fillies in the 2011 Crown Oaks field, Dowager Queen originally opened as the $3.70 to elect in the Luxbet markets but she is now out to $3.90.

A winner of four of her 16 career starts to date the daughter of Savabeel has been in good form this season that has included a Group 1 third to Streama in the Flight Stakes in Sydney and a second in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m) on Caulfield Cup Day.

Dowager Queen was last seen finishing seven and a half lengths away third behind Atlantic Jewel in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and is expected to improve with the step-up to the 2500 metres on Thursday.

The Crown Oaks 2011 betting market mover and now second favourite is then Mosheen who has been backed in from $6 to $4.80 at Luxbet.

Coming up trumps with barrier two for Thursday, the smart Robert Smerdon-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock has been one of the eye-catching fillies of the spring.

She has had a long preparation having been up since mid-August, but has been performing her heart out in all six of her runs so far.

Highlights from Mosheen’s three-year-season include her commanding three length victory in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and her brave second to Atlantic Jewel in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).

Mosheen comes into Thursday’s Crown Oaks off the back of a sixth place finish to Hurtle Myrtle in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Victoria Derby Day where she was caught out against the older mares from an awkward double-digit gate.

She has never been tested at a distance greater than a mile making the Crown Oaks a true stamina test for Mosheen, but the punters are behind her.

There are two other fillies at single-figure prices in the Crown Oaks odds at Luxbet with Leon Corstens’ surprise Wakeful Stakes runner-up Rahveel ($5.50) out in the far outside barrier and the Bart Cummings-trained Ethereal Stakes winner Gliding ($6.50) who also drew wide in gate 10.
