The final race of Victoria Derby day belongs to Queensland with Woorim getting up to win the tab.com.au Stakes at Flemington.

From a wide draw he went right to the back of the field before being produced wide with a blinding turn of speed.

It’s the type of run he produced down south at Moonee Valley first up and something those north of the border have known about all along.

He’s the type of horse that needs a good deal of luck because of his racing pattern making Flemington the perfect circuit.

Michael Rodd was able to turn the widest and find as much room as he wanted letting him balance up perfectly and swoop down the outside.

Once he hit the front it was never in doubt as he streaked away in a fantastic sign leading into the 2011 Emirates Stakes.

He’s had a few excuses in his last couple of runs including track conditions and big weight, but today everything fell into place for him to show what he can really produce.

Rodd took over the ride from Damien Browne and admits he didn’t know a lot about the horse but he sure does now.

“They said he’d win that and he’s come out and done it,” he said.

“You’ve got a class horse like this, he won the Glasshouse Sprint in Queensland last year by panels.”

He said there was little concern about drawing wide because it had no impact on his normal racing pattern.

“This bloke enjoys a bit of room so it worked out well for us,” he said.

Representative from the Robert Heathcote stable Melissa Leitch says they’ve never lost faith in him despite a few issues over the last couple of weeks.

“We know the horse is capable of that, it’s just a matter of getting him right,” he said.

“We freshened him back up and we were happy coming into this race.”

After this he’ll be straight into the Emirates Stakes and it’s going to take a good horse to beat him at Flemington if he can perform at this standard again.

Woorim was great value with online bookmaker Luxbet paying a huge $12 with Thankgodyou’re here running on late for second at $3.40 and Toorak Toff getting out late for third at $3.40.

After the day started with a string of short priced favourite it’s turned around late with big value for punters.

If you missed out today make sure you’re back for the rest of the carnival by registering an account with Luxbet.

Race Nine on the Victoria Derby Day card at Flemington this Saturday is the 2011 Chatham Stakes or ‘tab.com.au Stakes’.

Far from being a fill in race at the end of the card this Group 3 contest shapes as a potential highlight based on the quality of horses that will be represented.

As you can see in the Chatham Stakes form guide below nearly every horse has claims at their full potential, it’s just a matter of which horses show up on the day.

Some are dropping back from the higher level, others are coming up from lower grades. Some come back in distance, others go up in distance. Some are in good form, others have form that’s far more patchy.

As you can see it makes it a pretty tricky race for punters to get a hold of which is why we’ve done some of the work for you.

All you need to do is read our summary below and then pick the horse you think is going to be in the front when they hit the post.

Make sure you back your selection with Luxbet to ensure you get the best odds.

At Luxbet right now new members can even claim a free bet worth up to $500!

2011 Chatham Stakes Form Guide

Happy Zero

Ran second last in the Manikato off a hot pace set by Sepoy but drops in grade here and should perform better. He’s four from five at the trip so certainly not one to discount.

Toorak Toff

Two starts back he won the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes so at group 3 level here he simply has to be every chance. Forget his run in the Toorak Handicap as he didn’t handle the mile, back to 1400m there’s little reason he can’t win again. That is of course only if he can get across from barrier 15.

Thankgodyou’rehere

Ran last in the Epsom in what was a very peculiar performance, the only reason we can find is he didn’t run the trip. That being said he’s won over a mile before so that seems weird. At his best he’s every chance here, we just hope there are no issues there.

Woorim

This horse is rocks and diamonds, he could come out and blow them all away or he could simply tail of at the back. We think Flemington will suit his style though, it’s just a matter of how much he gives away at the start because he simply has no gate speed.

Doubtful Jack

Ran second to Black caviar last start, not a bad claim, although he was six lengths off the great mare in a four horse race. That being said he’s still a capable runner and the start before that he did win at Mornington.

Largo Lad

Sixth in the Gilgai Stakes around four lengths off Temple Of Boom but is better suited here. This is his favourite trip and one of his favourite tracks, look for him flying home late.

Rothera

Ninth in the Moonga Stakes and probably not as many excuses as some of the others. Looks out of it on recent form and we can find a few we like better.

Budriguez

Ran third last at Caulfield in the Moonga Stakes and we can’t see much changing on Saturday.

Torio’s Quest

Last start finished dead last in the Toorak Handicap, another weird result for a horse that’s a lot better than that. He had a month between runs before that though so technically is second up here and should improve accordingly. Another that looks to be suited by Flemington.

Amaethon

Fourth in the Moonga Stakes after winning the Testa Rossa so he’s definitely some sort of hope here. Gets gate one as well so will settle just off the speed.

Launay

Sixth in the Moonga so needs to improve a lot to be in with a shot here. That said he’s won three form six at the trip so he’s a shot.

Niblick

Up in grade from Listed level last start but he won and one well over a decent sort of a field. Needs to improve to win here but from gate three and carrying winning form there’s not a lot you can take away from the horse given it’s won three times from four goes at the trip and three times from five goes at the track.

Listen Son

First up since the Brisbane Carnival and while he’s at long odds he’s not the worst prospect. If he’s fit here he’ll go to the front and they won’t run past him without a fight.

Spacecraft

Second last in a handicap last start, not for us.

Chasm

Did nothing in the Seymour Cup and is out of his depth here.

Chosen To Fly

Second to Testa My Patience in a Caulfield Handicap, the winner has franked that form so maybe an exotic player.

This is the complete for guide for the Chatham Stakes so remember to get on at Luxbet if you want the best odds.

The race represents fantastic value so you could earn a tidy little prize if you choose to invest with Luxbet, Australia’s favourite bookmaker.

The 2011 Chatham Stakes or ‘tab.com.au Stakes’ as it is known this year shapes as a fantastic finisher to Victoria Derby Day at Flemington this Saturday.

The Chatham Stakes is Race 9, the final event of the card and could give punters a valuable end to their Victoria Derby Day by the looks of the final field.

A full capacity of 16 starters are scheduled to take their spots in the barriers and quality is littered among them.

The Chatham Stakes may be a Group 3 rated event but at least half a dozen of these horses wouldn’t look out of shape battling at the top level.

In fact #2 Toorak Toff won at Group 1 level just two starts back!

Track conditions are the key to this race given a least 100 horses are going to have chopped up the ground before them.

If Flemington is rated in the slow ranges at race one unless there a hot sun up above you can almost guarantee we’ll be in for a down grade by the time this race jumps.

With the threat f rain hanging around Melbourne at the moment make sure you do you form taking into consideration how versatile a horse is on a rain affected surface.

In terms of class there are a couple of standouts you’ll no doubt be looking at.

As mentioned earlier Toorak Toff is hard to miss given the level he’s already go to this prep.

Thankgodyou’rehere is another talented horse and if he gets the run he could be a show at the end.

Woorim probably has the best closing kick of any runner but it’s just a matter of whether or not he can find it on the day.

Others of note include Torio’s Quest, Amaethon and Niblick.

If you’re still on the punt in the last on Derby Day this weekend get a hold of a Luxbet account and make your dollar go further.

New members joining this spring can earn a free bet matching their initial deposit.

All you need to do is punch in the code BONUSBET and then claim your amount up to $500!

The last of the nine Group races to take place at Victoria Derby Day today will be Flemington Race 9 – the $250,000 Group 3 AAMI Business Insurances Stakes (1400m) due to jump at 5:10pm (AEDST).

The 2010 AAMI Business Insurance Stakes, previously registered as the Chatham Stakes, is the last chance for you to enjoy a wager and win good money off your Derby Day betting.

Set to be contested by 12 quality gallopers, the Peter Snowden-trained Demerit is the favourite to win Race 9 today paying $4 at Luxbet.

All the late money has been for this Lonhro four-year-old who was gallant on a heavy track at Caulfield last start, finishing strongly in fourth place behind Rothera.

He is third-up this preparation, tipped to improve with winkers on again today.

However, in an open field featuring many runners with claims, we here at Races.com.au are tipping a longer priced runner to cause one final upset at Derby Day for 2010 and have our money on Centennial Park for the win.

Flemington – Race 9 – AAMI Business Insurance Stakes

Races.com.au Favourite: #3 Centennial Park – Rated Special to Win at $12 Luxbet

Best Place Bets: #12 We’re Gonna Rock, #10 Demerit and #5 McClintock

David Payne’s Centennial Park is the defending champ who won this race 12 months ago in fine style, he’s got good form coming into this and should handle the heavy going so looks top value at double figure odds.

We aren’t discounting the favourite and Demerit they should be included in all multiples or to tip Each Way.

For more value, we like Mark Kavanagh’s We’re Gonna Rock and McClintock to Place.

For all the odds head to Luxbet and get the Tote + 20 % on every Group race in Melbourne for the entire Melbourne Cup Carnival!

The last race on the Victoria Derby Day card at Flemington this Saturday is the $250,000 Group 3 AAMI Business Insurance Stakes (1400m), which has drawn a 12 horse final field.

The 2010 AAMI Business Insurance Stakes, formerly known as the Chatham Stakes, will be contested by 12 quality gallopers on Saturday including notable acceptors Centennial Park, Jungle Ruler, Demerit and We’re Gonna Rock.

The David Payne-trained Centennial Park is an improving five-year-old who ran seventh in the Epsom Handicap last start.

Dropping back in class and distance on Saturday and drawn well in barrier five makes Centennial Park one of the top picks.

The Peter White-trained Jungle Ruler relished the Heavy track at Caulfield two weeks back and was able to finish third to Rothera in the Moonga Stakes, so if the ground is soft on Saturday they stand a good chance to Place again here.

Peter Snowden’s Lonhro four-year-old Demerit has placed fourth in both their spring starts this season and is tipped to improve on Saturday so include them in the exotics at Luxbet.

Sure to start high up the betting markets is the Mark Kavanagh-trained We’re Gonna Rock.

The Fastnet Rock four-year-old is coming off an impressive second to More Joyous in the Toorak Handicap and is due to be ridden by in-form hoop Michael Rodd.

The 2010 AAMI Business Insurance Stakes will run as Race 9 at Flemington on Saturday and for the best odds on the race and all the other Victoria Derby Day features make sure you sign up with leading online bookmaker Luxbet today!
