2009 Melbourne Cup Results

2009 Melbourne Cup Results

  • 1st: Shocking
  • 2nd: Crime Scene
  • 3rd: Mourilyan

The 2009 Melbourne Cup results saw the Mark Kavanagh-trained four-year-old Shocking ($9) salute from a wide barrier 22 draw. Shocking earned his way into the ‘race that stops a nation’ with a win in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes. While this seemed an unlikely point of entry for a Melbourne Cup champion, Shocking proved to have incredible staying power on the day.

Coming in second in the 2009 Melbourne Cup quinella just three quarters of a length behind was the Saeed Bin Suroor-trained international Crime Scene, with the Herman Brown-trained Mourilyan finishing in third about two lengths back. The 2009 Melbourne Cup results were quite unexpected, as Alcopop, Efficient and Viewed were the strong favourites in Melbourne Cup betting.

The unexpected nature of the 2009 Melbourne Cup results was underlined by the 2009 Melbourne Cup trifecta payouts, which paid out at over $9,000 per dollar wagered!
