Lexus Melbourne Cup Day 2020 will be strangely quiet from a spectator-standpoint on track at HQ but the racing action will be as incredible as ever as the 160th Melbourne Cup winner will become known a few minutes after 3:00pm (AEDT) this afternoon at Flemington Racecourse.

Day 2 of the coveted Melbourne Cup Carnival gets underway at 10:45am (AEDT) and below the Races.com.au team have the live Melbourne Cup Day results from Flemington across the afternoon.

2020 Melbourne Cup Day racing features a triple-shot of Group action but it is the famous Flemington Race 7 that everyone is waiting for.

The Group 1 $8 million Lexus Melbourne Cup field faces off over two-miles in what is dubbed the ‘greatest three minutes of sport’.

For the 2020 edition of the ‘race that stops a nation’ there are eight internationals looking to return to glory after the success of Vow And Declare (2019) led by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Irish duo of Tiger Moth and Anthony Van Dyck who lead betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Danny O’Brien’s reigning champion Vow And Declare is also back to defend his title at big odds and is joined in the line-up by two of his stablemates including one-time favourite Russian Camelot.

The big news out of the Melbourne Cup field on race morning was the scratching of O’Brien’s Adelaide Cup winner King Of Leogrance, found to be lame in the off fore leg.

Throw into the mix the Ladbrokes Cox Plate hero Sir Dragonet, Chris Waller’s Caulfield Cup winning mare Verry Elleegant and last year’s brilliant fifth placegetter Surprise Baby and we’ve got a race!

Outrageous salute in the sixth on Cup Day. the talented young Spirit Of Boom colt ridden to victory by last year’s Melbourne Cup winning hoop Craig Williams who rides Surprise Baby in the 2020 edition of the ‘race that stops a nation’ later in the day. It was a thrilling two-horse battle to the line with Alleboom and Hard Landing going stride for stride, but the latter just couldn’t quite reign in the top elect running second with Mr Moppett running third.
