Class filly Swift Witness remains the clear favourite in 2021 Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting at the Gold Coast on Saturday to hand co-trainer Gai Waterhouse with her fifth win in the $2 million feature.

The Waterhouse-Bott trained daughter of Star Witness remains at a steady $4 through Ladbrokes.com.au to post back-to-back Gold Coast wins as she steps up in class for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) this weekend.

Swift Witness, to be ridden by Brenton Avdulla for the first time on Saturday, is on the quick back-up after her huge three length win at the track over 1100m against her own kind last weekend.

That big win was despite her missing the kick and being awkward out and showed a nice improvement off her debut third in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic from December 16.

The Chris Waller-trained Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning filly She’s All Class presents as the danger when her and Swift Witness renew their rivalry in the bigger event in Queensland.

James McDonald retains the ride on Waller’s progressive I Am Invincible filly who, after a debut third behind Captivant at Randwick last October, won the Wyong event by nearly five lengths in a massive performance she’s out to emulate on Saturday.

She has been kept fit with a Rosehill trial earlier in the month but will need to improve again after drawing out wide (18) in the capacity Magic Millions 2YO Classic field.

She’s All Class occupies the second line of betting at $4.40 and, like the favourite, is out to be the fifth filly in as many years to beat home the boys in the Restricted Listed showdown.

Despite the size of the field, just one other juvenile is currently under $10 for the win with the Toby & Trent Edmonds-trained Alpine Edge at a steady $8 to remain undefeated at his third career start.

Robbie Fradd has ridden the talented Better Than Ready colt for both his victories to date and continues alliances this weekend.

On debut at Eagle Farm on December 12 Alpine Edge narrowly took out the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) before returning to the track on Boxing Day, relishing the step up to 1200m for a half-length win in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes.

There has been a slight move in betting on the Waller-trained Ranch Hand ($11 into $10) with the Fastnet Rock colt – a Warwick Farm winner on debut – gaining a start as the first emergency following the scratching of the widely-drawn Fake Love.

Ranch Hand backed up from his December win running third at Eagle Farm on January 2 in a two-years-old handicap carrying 58kg and, having been beaten only a half-length that day, should relish the drop back to 57kg at set weights this weekend.

The early market mover meanwhile still at a generous Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds, but backed in notably from $31 to $21 is the Darryl Hansen-trained You’ll Be Mist.

Veteran hoop Jim Byrne partners the in-form Headwater filly who is one of the more experienced youngsters in the race.

She has had four starts for two wins and a third heading into her first Gold Coast assignment including her three-length victory carrying 58kg at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m on December 18.

Kept fresh since, she’s had one 1200m run when third to Subterranean at Doomben in early December, and could be the value runner in the event.
