The Queensland Oaks is a set weights race now held at Eagle Farm Racecourse for three-year-old fillies in early June each year. Raced during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival over a distance of 2200m, the Group 1 classic is worth $700,000 in prize money and is now the marquee race on Queensland Oaks Day.

From 2017 – 2019 the Queensland Oaks Day meeting ran at Doomben Racecourse over 2200m, moving from its previous track (Eagle Farm) and distance (2400m). There was no Queensland Oaks held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then in 2021 the race returned to Eagle Farm, but retained the shorter 2200m distance.

The Group 2 The Roses (2000m) is held two weeks earlier and is regarded as the best lead-up race to the Queensland Oaks. The latest fillies to win The Roses / Queensland Oaks double are Youngstar (2018), Scarlett Lady (2011) and Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal in 2001. Although the race is greatly admired in Queensland, its field is not as strong as the ATC Oaks in Sydney or the VRC Oaks in Melbourne attracting mainly locally-trained hopefuls.

Trainer Chris Waller boasts a great recent record in the Queensland Oaks preparing three winners: Winx (2015), Egg Tart (2017), and Youngstar (2018).

The form of the 2021 Queensland Oaks was franked with the winner Duais going on to complete the 2022 Group 1 Australian Cup – Tancred Stakes interstate double the following autumn.

In 2022 the Queensland Oaks winner Gypsy Goddess returned in the spring and ran third in the $10 million The Golden Eagle race in Sydney.

The Queensland Oaks 2024 runs on Saturday June 8, 2024 at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
