A smart field of spring sprinters will face off under the lights at The Valley on Friday night in the Moir Stakes 2021 and in an open betting market it is the resuming Profiteer tipped to salute first-up.

Eleven horses make-up Group 1 $1 million Moir Stakes (1000m) and Ladbrokes.com.au have $3.90 on offer for the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr trained Capitalist colt Profiteer.

The nicely-bred three-year-old has had four starts for two wins and was narrow runner-up to Anamoe in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) back in March.

He has his first run since a midfield finish in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on a Soft track and is tipped to improve off his break on firmer going.

Occupying the second line of Moir Stakes betting at $5 is Singapore expat The Inferno, Cliff Brown’s five-year-old coming off a good win in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at the same track and distance on September 4.

One-length winner in that short distance feature, he is now out to do the McEwen Stakes – Moir Stakes double against a number of the same rivals on Friday night.

A further two short-distance specialists are at single-figure Moir Stakes odds with Wild Ruler ($7.50) for Team Snowden and the Chris Waller-trained September Run ($9) drawn the rails.

Snitzel four-year-old Wild Ruler was good first-up finishing second to superstar Nature Strip in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m).

He was kept out of last weekend’s Group 2 The Shorts and saved instead for this elite level target at Moonee Valley where he runs in Melbourne for the first time since his eye-catching third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) down the Flemington straight last October.

Coolmore Stud Stakes winning filly September Run is second-up in the Moir with John Allen to ride the now four-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel.

She has had two previous Moonee Valley runs including her good third only a length off The Inferno fresh in the McEwen Stakes and looks a genuine improver with claims at a nice price here.

The early Moir Stakes market mover into $10 through Ladbrokes.com.au is Joe Pride’s last start Listed Norman Carlyon winner over the 1000m at The Valley, Ballistic Lover.

The four-year-old Smart Missile mare is up in grade, but has an ultra-consistent record to date and wonderful strike-rate over the 1000m (5:3-1-0).

Godolphin stalwart Trekking ($11) coming off a first-up third in the Concorde Stakes and McEwen Stakes runner-up Portland Sky ($11) along with Moonee Valley specialist Brooklyn Hustle ($13) are the other standouts in an exciting edition of the event.
