2020 Moir Stakes Field Released: 13 Sprinters Race at The Valley

The Group 1 Moir Stakes 2020 final field has attracted 13 sprinters set to do battle on the notoriously tight Moonee Valley circuit under the lights on Friday night.

It is an intriguing edition of the $1 million Group 1 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes (1000m), set to run as The Valley Race 7 at 8:15pm (AEST) at the twilight meet.

In an open Moir Stakes betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, the punters are predicting the up-and-comer in the field, Fabergino, to upset a host of Group 1 winners and performers in the weight-for-age feature.

Currently stabled with Jason Warren, who saddles-up rival Brooklyn Hustle, the Tiarnna Robertson-trained Maschino mare from Bennett Springs in WA comes into the Moir having won nine of her 12 career starts.

She’s a genuine 1000m specialist boasting a commanding record of seven wins and two thirds from nine runs over the Moir distance, and it is this strike-rate that has her sitting top of the Moir markets at $4.50.

The gun grey has won her last four starts, including a Black-Type win at Flemington in late February, and runs for the first time since taking out Ascot’s Group 3 Northam Stakes (1100m) over Flirtini back in May.

As for her short-term stablemate Brooklyn Hustle, the smart Starspangledbanner mare has an excellent record at the Moir Stakes track and distance with two wins and a third from three runs.

The classy chestnut was last seen running third under a length beaten behind Bella Vella in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) on September 5 and is a $17 outsider to improve by two on that performance.

Will Clarken’s McEwen Stakes winning Commands mare Bella Vella is installed at current Moir Stakes odds of $7 to complete the double and take out a second Group 1 following her Robert Sangster success at home in Adelaide earlier in the year.

Current co-third elects in the markets at $8 each are then Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winning mare Pippie and the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Away Game both running first-up from barriers five and three respectively.

Getting in on just 50kg as a three-year-old filly, Away Game has won four of her eight career starts and runs for the first time since her fifth to Bella Vella in the Robert Sangster.

Godolphin’s returning Group 1 The Goodwood winner Trekking in barrier two pays $9 to win first-up and rounds-out the single-figure fancies in the markets.
