A much-altered Victory Stakes Day 2020 program runs at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane today, Saturday May 23, as part of a reshuffled Winter Carnival and below are the full scratchings and track report for the meeting.
It is an overcast but otherwise fine day in Brisbane today and without any chance of serious rain, the current Good (4) Eagle Farm track rating should remain across the afternoon.
Racing at Eagle Farm gets underway at 11:15am (AEDT) with the nine-race program continuing through until 4:15pm (AEDT).
There’s a triple-shot of Group racing taking place on this season’s Victory Stakes Day card starting with the two-year-olds facing off in the Group 2 $175,000 Champagne Classic (1200m).
The key lead-up to the Group 1 J.J. Atkins on June 6, which runs over 1400m instead of a mile this season, the 2020 Champagne Classic field is down to six runners following three scratchings with betting dominated by unbeaten filly Isotope ($2.20 @ Ladbrokes.com.au.
There’s no Queensland Derby taking place this year, but the traditional lead-up race is still going ahead with the Group 3 $115,000 Gunsynd Classic (1800m) running as Race 7 this afternoon.
A capacity 14-starter field is assembled for the event including the third emergency Bold Delago who comes in for the scratched Mark Currie-trained Mishani Secret.
It is the flying Chris Waller-trained Kinane ($1.95 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) from the outside barrier that dominates Gunsynd Classic betting, while the local Profit ($5.50 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) shapes up as the danger of the other three-year-olds.
The meeting’s marquee event is the Group 2 $175,000 Victory Stakes (1200m), usually run in April as a weight-for-age race but taking place this afternoon as a set weights plus penalties event.
The major lead-up into the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) now, the Victory Stakes field has 13 remaining runners after a trio of scratchings with the Tony Gollan-trained Vega One ($4 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) the favourite.
